Today I was joined by Andrés “Blaze” Vidaurre and Danny “Polo” Baribeau for another Sunday run! Andrés and Danny are both freshmen in O’Neill 3A. Andrés is studying chemistry and philosophy and is originally from Davie, Florida. Danny is studying English and chemistry and is originally from Holliston, Massachusetts.

Before finishing college, Andrés hopes to compile his thoughts from over the years into a personal philosophy as a written reflection that articulates his perspective. This is something he might address in his senior year thesis as part of the Glynn Family Honors Program. After graduation, Andrés wants to complete the Camino de Santiago in Spain. This is a religious pilgrimage that members of his family have done. Andrés’ father told him about how the El Camino gives you a lot of time to think about your relationship with God.

Our conversation today consisted of USEM subjects, high school sports, humanity, deer, section culture, Notre Dame dorms, and 3A traditions.

I had a great time with these guys and love that the freshmen are so eager to get involved this year! They are both much stronger runners than myself, so we agreed to do a 5k for tonight. They have an awesome class in 3A and these two have especially gotten involved. Both Andrés and Danny talked about how much they enjoy their class subjects and are getting a lot out of them, something that’s super cool and refreshing to hear. I appreciated the perspective these two brought and always love hanging out with the 3A freshmen. Can’t wait to see what they achieve going forward! Day 26 is in the books. Back to regularly scheduled lifting to finish out the final week of Liftober.

Hey everyone, I’m Andrés Vidaurre and I’m from South Florida. I’m fully committed to Notre Dame and I’m majoring in Chemistry and Philosophy on the pre-med track and in the Glynn Honors Program. I like to go out, exercise, be with friends, go to concerts, travel, and try new things. I’m looking forward to meeting people so feel free to reach out.

VidaMed had the amazing opportunity this summer to teach essential first aid skills to a community in the Gomoti Plains of Botswana called Ditshiping. They are located 8 hours away from Maun and from the nearest hospital. The Ditshiping community live in huts made of elephant dung and have a local school founded by the South African foundation as a donation to the community. Because the nearest hospital is so far away, Andrés taught the local school’s staff CPR, control of a severe bleed, and other essential first aid skills so they would be better prepared for any situation. Also due to their lack of resources, VidaMed donated both a tourniquet and a CPR dummy so they are able to practice the taught skills 🇧🇼🫀

VidaMed had the opportunity to promote our cause in two 5K’s last week! 😎 On Thursday, we attended the Aden Perry Hero Event at Amerant Bank Arena where we were able to give a quick class to all the teenager volunteers and runners on adult and infant CPR. On Saturday, we attended the 5K for a Better Day hosted at American Heritage School by the Pre Medical Society in support of the Broward Health Salah Foundation #cprsaveslives 🫀

This past Friday, VidaMed had the opportunity to go to Dolphins Pediatrics to teach a BLS (Basic Life Support) Course. The course offered essential information that people getting certified are required to know in order to respond appropriately to different types of situations. #cpr 🩺
