This show will always make me emotional as it was the first show I saw as a little tot during its long run @hollywoodpantagestheatre . Visiting this show on Broadway was a true theatre bucket-list moment for me. I expected to cry, as I always do, but hearing the welcoming to everyone seeing their first Broadway show had me crying before the show even started! Timeless and great for all ages, @thelionking will always be a top show for me!

I was thinking…

Yesterday, August 27, my Lyft driver’s name was Chadwick.

I told him how much I loved his name because I had never met another Chadwick—and because it immediately made me think of Chadwick Boseman. He happened to be a musician, and we spent the ride talking about creativity. I shared the encounter on Threads without realizing that today, August 28, marks six years since Chadwick Boseman’s passing.

I often receive timing like this as spiritual confirmation. I believe God and the ancestors know how to get our attention—through names, memories and moments that carry more weight than they ordinarily would.

Chadwick Boseman and Black Panther represented more than a character or a film. Wakanda allowed us to imagine Black people as brilliant, sovereign, technologically advanced and rooted in tradition—with ancestral connection represented as sacred and powerful, not dark or wicked. It expanded what we could envision for ourselves.

This reminded me that a seed is not the harvest, but it carries the possibility of one. We may not know exactly where a moment is leading—and perhaps we don’t need to know yet. Maybe the invitation is simply to have enough faith to keep believing, keep sowing, keep showing up and keep sharing the gift.

“If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed…nothing shall be impossible unto you.” — Matthew 17:20

This moment brought me back to dreams I have spoken aloud—and to a cultural moment that shifted us in a major way. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of something like that?

I’m taking Chadwick as a reminder to keep dreaming, keep creating and, apparently, keep working on this new music. Lol. God is good.

Loving theatre is COOL!!! Don’t let anyone tel you otherwise!

In Episode 82, Brennan is joined by Broadway’s Andrew Arrington as they talk about learning to love theatre and find those spaces that keep that love going. And as always, this platform remains an Audra McDonald fan account!
