POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Sharing some moments from Weighty Matter(s), developed for YDP’s Bubbling festival at the height of summer. For the workshop, Yoojin Lee @nijooyl and I compost-dyed reclaimed fabrics to produce over 80 soft weights. Participants engaged with these compost- and debris-filled weights, exploring different forms of bearing, pressing and releasing, and attending to the embodied and relational effects that emerged.

What a pleasure to be able to immerse oneself in #correspondences and #contexts of @magda_stawarska and @lubainapics this afternoon @lisson_gallery. A particular jewel which continues at #LissonStreet are these heart wrenching paintings by Lubaina Himid created in the late 90s, #Zanzibar, which form part of an animate opera in collaboration and dialogue with Magda Stawarska’s breathtaking libretto. Delighted to have experienced this in Eindhoven, Nice, Sharjah, and Luxembourg—from landlocked nation to enclaves that stretch outward to sea. And lovely to see some of Magda’s painted grids and manifold languages, as a special gift for this afternoon. 👏🏽

Ruba Nadar (b.1998), based in London, UK.

In the words of the artist:

My work and studio function as spaces of collection and reassembly, where figures and roles shaped by image are reconsidered through gesture, memory, and cinematic re-interpretation. I work with collage scraps, painting, stitched fabrics, torn photographs, and archival sports imagery to create layered compositions and objects that hover between presence and absence. Each material is selected for its physical and cultural resonance, and assembled through the lens of visibility, longing, and remembrance.

Drawing from Egyptian cinema and my own Egyptian and Lebanese family archive, I am interested in the tension embedded in images: pauses, glances, and fragments that suggest unspoken narratives. Film stills, photographs, and textiles are disrupted and reworked, allowing imagined characters to emerge through intention and interruption. At its core, my practice approaches the archive as an emotional and historical site, where fragments of personal and collective memory are rearranged into intimate, unresolved forms.

Ignore the hasty photoshop I’m STILL glowing from the @rainbownationda Charity Gala at @yourallypally yesterday! 👯This was the final performance of my first vogueing class, which let’s be honest was sorely needed for my drag. I’m so glad I did it, not only because @phoenix___007 is an incredible teacher, but also because I got to meet so many talented people over the past couple months. You’ve all inspired me to work even harder at this.

Everyone brought their own skills and attitude to our performances, and I felt so confident going on that stage with you all, being part of a spectacle that was all about supporting and celebrating the trans community, right down to the Kim Petras megamix finale. 🏳️‍⚧️ I’ve also included our little group dance at the end of our Club Kids routine because UGH look at us!

More pics/vids to come and yes I did 2 different makeup looks and 3 different outfits it was absolutely not chaotic at all shut up. 😘 If you wanna see me attempting to put my newfound vogue skills to use, come to Lipsync Assasins on May 29th! 😋

Over the last couple of years, joining the Vogue babes at @rainbownationda has been such a life changing experience in so many beautiful ways 🫟

I’ve met some incredible people across the whole academy, learned to serve in heels while making such good connections with other beautiful souls AND myself!

I really feel like I’m living out the authentic version of me more than ever which has been a long time coming. Vogue, RNDA, the people, each and EVERY single one of you cuties, including @phoenix___007 have given me a place to belong in that journey, shared wonderful moments and have brought the best out in me through queer joy!

On Saturday, every single person, speech and performance style across the show made the evening so special to be a part of, enjoy and make a stand for Trans rights!

Keep on dancin’ 💗👠
