6months late to posting this, but my appreciation for my 8.5years at @imovephysiotherapy and @therunningroom hasn’t faded a bit.

What a wild ride. Learning to be a clinician, yearly retreats, covid, iMoveRunClub Wednesdays, leaving your dream clinic to start a new clinic with a guy who calls you brah. RUCs. Putting the cult into culture.

I learnt how to be a Physio but I learnt so much more. These are the people, and this is the clinic that turned me into who I am today.

It’s impossible to summarise almost a decade in a few photos, but these are some of the dearest memories that sum up my time.

I’ve always said if I’m a Physio in Australia I won’t work anywhere else. And it took me leaving the country to leave this clinic.

ACL Rehab Vlog - Shiv’s at his 4th knee operation 😅

After retearing his ACL again, having the knee cleaned out with another operation to prepare the site & then having it redone this time around, he’s no stranger to rehab.

What’s been incredible to see his how PREHAB has built his strength back alongside muscle bulk allowing him to nail the basics of rehab for ACL really well.

Knee is at zero degrees extension, strength is already coming back on & achieving a straight leg raise with no lag!

We worked hard with Shiv under the guidance of @rush.physio & @andrewthephysio @recoverie.health

The work we do in the prehab phase makes the early post op phase so much better!

Rehabbing one ACL while functioning without the other has forced me to respect the process more than ever.

You can’t rush tissue healing.

You can’t fake control in an isometric.

And you definitely can’t ego your way through an isometric!

What I’ve learnt from treating hundreds of ACL patients and living it myself:

👉 Stability is earned in the boring work.
👉 Strength is built when no one’s clapping.
👉 Every knee has its own timeline.

Flare ups happen. Trust me I’ve been in & out of flare ups since week 1.

Fatigue shows up. Rehab fatigue in particular is real & leaning into your team here matters.

Doubt creeps in. I’ve asked questions about everything here & faced hard truths.

But what I do know is that if you focus on capacity, control, and consistency, then the knee adapts.

Build capacity first. Everything else follows.

Closed week 15 post ACL, LCL & Meniscus repair 👊🏽 with two big soft play parties & carrying the kids for hours as a solo parent.

That’s the real championship win 🏆

On Sunday we were proud to host our ACL Collective Workshop and coffee catch up at Recoverie Northwood ☕️

A day dedicated to education, movement and empowering our ACL patients through every stage of rehab.

We wrapped things up with a post-workout coffee and chat, creating space for connection, shared experiences and honest conversations

This workshop was held in support of charity @_icanyoucantoo , and it’s just the beginning. We’ll be running these sessions regularly as we continue to build a stronger ACL community.

5 Hard Truths About ACL Rehab (from an ACL physio)

Currently Week 9 post-op.
ACL + LCL + meniscus repaired.
Physio by trade. Patiently rehabilitating an operated knee and one without an ACL.

Here’s what actually matters 👇

1️⃣ Surgery is not the end goal.

It’s the starting line. A reconstructed ligament means nothing without months of intelligent, progressive rehab.

2️⃣ Your rehab professional matters more than your surgeon.

Rehab gives you a functioning knee — strength, trust, confidence, return to sport.

3️⃣ No plan = no outcome.

Random sessions, random exercises, random timelines… produce random results.

Great rehab is planned, phased, and ruthless about detail.

4️⃣ Fancy exercises without context will fail you.

Instagram-friendly drills don’t rebuild quads, restore capacity, or reduce reinjury risk.

Progression > novelty. Always.

5️⃣ Consistency beats motivation every time.

There are no shortcuts. No hacks. No “one exercise.”
Just showing up — even on the boring days.

Bonus truths most people ignore:
– Strength symmetry is not readiness to sport
– Swelling is a signal, not a badge of honour
– Returning too early costs more than waiting
– Trust in your knee is earned, not hoped for

Rehab isn’t about ticking weeks off a timeline.

Your ACL journey doesn’t need more noise.
It needs clarity, patience, and the right guide.

Four weeks of ACL work the camera actually caught 📸

What a journey it’s been! Tried summarising 4 lessons into the 60 seconds and the snippets!

What’s about to come?

Another two weeks longer to build the knee strength, partial weight bear & slowly improve the knee function.

‘It’s okay for the knee to be your second or third priority’ as long as I get things happening in the right direction. @andrewthephysio

Day 8 - ACLr LCL & Meniscus Repair

Location - my daughter’s bedroom (have had to get another mortgage out to pay her for it) 🤣🤷‍♂️

Literally turned a massive corner in the last 48 hours 🚀

People always ask why do you do between 300-500 reps of most exercises per day?

This is the phase where Volume beats Intensity 🔥

RPE ranges of 300-500 are common for us to prescribe during the initial few weeks of rehab!

Why?

At this stage, overloading the joint by intensive training with extra load or weight isn’t going to work.

Instead we use the volume & hypertrophic work with @hytro_ shorts, @compex_uk & @squidgouk to give pre and post cryotherapy.

Literally feel human within 8 days of having the knee surgery of a lifetime with @londonkneesurgeon

I wasn’t doing great between Day 3-5 primarily because I let the pain take over & reduced the meds / time blocks & just didn’t tackle my sleep very well.

A few wise words from my own physio @andrewthephysio & realised how much we were leaving in the tank by not simplifying the rehab.

As much as I want to show you the rehab for complex ACL injuries, I am also human & dropping that idea has been another win 🏆

I’ve been to the temple, worked on a good day of knee surgery & done the best with pain meds (not taking the stronger stuff anymore).

Chalking this to be the best day yet after having my knee surgically repaired.

Day 48

It’s not the surgery but the disconnection from routine of the kids, the interruptions & lack of contribution that happens when parents have surgeries or injuries.

As a dad of two amazing children I know how the next few months are going to test me & more so how my wife runs the show & the challenges that we will all face.

This clip is a raw insight into what really is my main focus initially.

Get back to being an active father 🙏🏽

Day 38 - Today just felt all sorts of hard BEFORE I even began lifting the weights.

An insight into knowing not every session goes as planned but here we are.

A few weeks away from the Op - doing what I can to continue building strength & just being in the ‘doing’ part.

The reality is it’s a multi ligament reconstruction - a challenging for most to even think about let alone try prehab.

What started off as a day on the back foot actually gave me all the PBs (since the injury) - managed to get 130kg on the deadlift with ease, partial rep squats at 100kg, heavy calf work & neuromuscular rehab drills.

If you’re joining me - I’m Rush - an ACL physio amongst many hats that I wear but also currently have no ACLs 🤷‍♂️😂

The unpopular truth about ACL Injuries & Rehab 🦿

Specificity wins each time - whilst guides or fancy rehab drills may be useful - specific rehab for each person is key!

ACL rehab can be quite lonely - if you haven’t yet built a partnership with your surgeon, physio & coach.

Technically any rehab is team sport & I know that the last 30 days have been nothing short of efforts from everyone involved.

A month since I tore my LCL, ACL, MCL, meniscus - just to add the other knee does not have an ACL either.

I’m walking better, I can play with my kids & take them swimming, drop offs & much more. I haven’t taken a day off work as a physio & biz owner, drove a truck across London, able to even train heavy once again.

This has happened because I’ve built each aspect of the rehab around my lifestyle & using @matt_prehabpro @andrewthephysio to bounce ideas & get working.

The best part of all this is that I have just started to get stronger once again.

I know there’s many who believe one specific way of ACL rehab works - let me tell you it doesn’t. 👊🏽

No top 3 exercises will get you better but the ones that are specific for you.
