On Elijah Silvera Day, we celebrate and focus on love, joy, and kindness in the community, by reflecting on how others Make A Hand, Make A Hug and Make A Kiss - words Elijah left us with. It made sense for us to release the cover of the book that our President Dina Hawthorne has been waiting to share and have spent years working on; release it on this day. 🎉

Today is also special because it is Elijah’s Birthday 🎁 , and he would have been 12 years old today. We are honored and so grateful to finally share the Book Cover release of Elijah Builds a Park.

Elijah loved parks and building “parks” with his blocks every single day. The story captures his joy, what made him different, brotherhood, imagination, friendship, family, and adventure.

Writing this book was deeply personal and healing. Today, we celebrate love, joy, kindness, and community. Thank you to everyone who continues to support The Elijah-Alavi Foundation, and we look forward to Making A Hand, Making A Hug, and Making A Kiss with all of you for another year.
We look forward to many more. 🎉

💙 From our hearts to yours…

How many years does it take to leave a legacy? Sometimes, it only takes a moment… and a whole lot of love.

On January 16, we honor Elijah Silvera Day, and we also celebrate what would be our son Elijah’s 12th birthday. It is a day rooted in love, kindness, and community. A day that reminds us to protect one another, show up for each other, and turn love into action.

As Elijah’s parents and as co-founders of the Elijah-Alavi Foundation, we have seen how powerful this community is. Families, friends, advocates, and partners across the country continue to lift one another up and help keep children safer through education, awareness, and compassion.

This year, on January 16, 2026, we have something very special to share with you. A moment. A message. All driven by Elijah’s Echo and the love that continues to surround him.

So wherever you are, join us and say it with your heart:
🤍 Make a hand
🤍 Make a hug
🤍 Make a kiss

Because together, we are community, and together, we are building a safer world for every child.

With love and gratitude,
Elijah’s parents 🤍
Co-founders, Elijah-Alavi Foundation

Dina Hawthorne, President of the Elijah-Alavi Foundation, shared her story on @pix11news last night after an emotional and win for safeguarding New York City children.

For a year, the Elijah-Alavi Foundation has worked on this ordinance with Sponsors Council Member Julie Menin @julmenin @cmjuliemenin . Yesterday the NYC Council passed Int. 895, a city mandate requiring schools and childcare programs to carry weight based dose epinephrine delivery devices and be trained to use them.

Elijah’s Law was signed into New York State law in 2019. Now this New York City ordinance will safeguard the youngest and most vulnerable students at the city level with real preparedness and life saving protection.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this happen. We are community and we are stronger together. Epinephrine saves lives. #epinephrine #nycschools #foodallergies

Elijah-Alavi Foundation Inc. would like to thank everyone involved in making this moment possible. Dina Hawthorne and I are deeply grateful to those who testified including Jenna Riemenschneider @aafanational @kidswithfoodallergies , Chris Martinez MIB, CFRE of @foundationforaair , Renia Butler, @blackallergymama who spoke earlier this year, Gary Riddle w/kaleo for their support and all the advocates who stood with us every step of the way. We have worked closely with Sponsor @julmenin @cmjuliewon on this new bill that the New York City Council @nyccouncil has passed today unanimously. This first of its kind mandate will save lives by requiring all NYC schools and childcare programs to stock epinephrine delivery devices. We are truly thankful to Councilwoman Menin for her leadership, persistence, and genuine commitment to protecting children and communities.
This work is deeply personal for us and it honors my son Elijah-Alavi whose life and legacy continue to guide everything we do. No parent should ever experience what we went through and this ordinance brings us one step closer to a safer future for every child.
Thank you to everyone who has supported, advocated, testified, and believed in this mission. New York City is leading the charge and we are just getting started.
I want to personally thank @staceysaiontz for introducing us to Julie Menin. We are community and we are stronger together #epipen #nyc #foodallergies #anaphylaxis #elijahsecho

This Giving Tuesday, your support is a lifeline.

For seven years, our grassroots work has trained thousands of educators, supported families, strengthened communities, advanced advocacy, and helped save 5 lives. One educator even survived an allergic reaction because trained staff knew what to do.

Anaphylaxis happens fast.
One in ten reactions occur in childcare or school, and up to one third involve children with no known allergies.

Your support fuels our advocacy, our training in communities with limited access, and our Differently Like Me program teaching safety, self advocacy, anaphylaxis prevention, and confidence in using epinephrine delivery devices in childcare and beyond.

When you give, you help:
• Protect vulnerable children
• Equip educators to save lives
• Support families
• Strengthen advocacy
• Build safer communities

Stand with us this Giving Tuesday.
Give because it saves lives. Click the link in our bio to donate today. Giving Tuesday , support, donate, food allergies

We’re thrilled to share some exciting news! The Elijah Alavi Foundation has been selected as a @nationalpeanutboard Grant Recipient.

This incredible support will help us expand our health learning program, empowering families, educators, and communities with vital education on anaphylaxis prevention. Together with the National Peanut Board, we’re continuing our mission to protect children, raise awareness, and create safer environments in childcare settings.

We’re deeply grateful to the NPB team for recognizing the importance of this work and partnering with us to make a lasting impact. This grant will allow us to reach more educators and families, strengthen our programs, and continue turning purpose into action for Elijah, for every child, and for every family. #elijahsecho #anaphylaxis #foodallergies

I am so humbled and honored to be named a Finalist for the Advocacy Trailblazer Award in the 2025 Social Health Awards. @socialhealthnetwork

Thank you to whoever nominated me. This truly isn’t just about me, it’s about the community. The work I do, whether it’s advocacy, policy, or research, has always been because of and for you. After the loss of my son Elijah, I found my why. That why has kept me and our organization moving forward, speaking out, and fighting to make sure no other family goes through what mine did.

For me, it always comes back to this, "lead with purpose. Advocacy isn’t about being perfect or scripted, it’s about listening, learning, and letting your passion for the community guide you."

This recognition is really for all of us. I am grateful, I am honored, and I am excited to keep pushing this mission forward together.
