100 Miles. 15,700 Vert. ✅

As a washed-up baseball player, running any real distance was never part of the plan. My job was to take things 90 feet at a time. Anything beyond that was punishment.

I first heard about ultramarathons years ago when my buddy @wesgmartin crushed the @crazymountainultra. I couldn’t wrap my head around running 100 miles through the mountains. It sounded lunatic and impossible.

Fast forward to this March in Joshua Tree. I was there to chase and film @peternelsonii and a group of ultrarunners on a 75-mile training run for @sisu_sauna. I was sick as could be and running on two hours of sleep, but I was pumped to see what the ultra world was all about.

The plan was to run a 5-mile section and grab some shots. The farthest I’d ever run was 15 miles, and I had no intention of going past that.

That changed fast. About halfway through, Pete dropped a not-so-subtle hint to keep pushing.

It turned into a 33-mile mission. My phone died, I ran out of water, threw up, and hitchhiked to the last aid station. It was my first time hitting “the wall,” and I was completely hooked. My first ultra. I even got to meet my now coach @buildpursuits and share some miles with him.

Since March, I’ve jumped in the deep end: two 30Ks, three 50Ks, a 50-miler, and now 100 miles.

What a journey. With every training block and every race, I find a new unlock, lessons that carry over into becoming a better human. It’s addicting. Relentless forward progress, no matter the pain, the situation, or whatever the conditions throw at me, and then breaking through.

That feeling has been with me my whole life.

We’re capable of so much more than we think and I can’t wait to keep building 📈

Now I just need to convince @crazymountainultra to let me come suffer in my backyard next year.

Thank you to my crew, my coach, and everyone who’s supported me along the way.

What a privilege to ENDURE.

12 hours.
1.1-mile loop.
12% grade.
4,300+ ft of elevation gain.
Up. Down. Repeat.

The most challenging physical thing I’ve ever done, and one of the most rewarding.

What made it special wasn’t the distance. It was doing it in front of my boys, surrounded by a community enduring for something bigger than themselves.

They watched me struggle. They cheered. They ran some miles with me. And they watched me keep going.

I’m blessed to be able to do this, and I never want to take for granted the countless blessings we have — our health, our family, our friends, and simply the opportunity to be here.

Thank you to my family and friends who showed up, ran miles with me, kept me moving, and helped me through those 12 hours. I didn’t do this alone.

And to those who are no longer here — I miss you. I love you. I’ll keep enduring and doing my best to make you proud. Because I don’t quit. ❤️

Thank you, @peternelsonii , @amyperez1809 and the entire team, for creating something so special — bringing people together to endure, push themselves, and support those affected by cancer. This is what community is about.

First ultra. First 50K.

I gave it everything I had. 🐗🔥

All three cancer patients who will be receiving funding from Hell on Hogsback were in attendance on Saturday.

The runners and supporters didn’t know the families would be there. We kept it that way so the families could relax and just watch the community show up for them.

At the end, our creative team snagged this moment where I broke down into tears. It’s cool that people can run fast, run far, and post about it after. But the real win was that they encouraged people who don’t have that choice to walk into tomorrow with a different outlook on life.

And to me that is the whole point of this event.

A massive shout out to our 🐗 creative team for posting before, during, and after the event. So much planning and preparation went into this so we could relive the event afterwards. They absolutely killed it.

Be on the lookout for the longform YouTube documentary in the next couple weeks.

I’ve been blessed to be around people who have built and sold businesses and others who have built legacy brands where they hold them for decades.

The common thread I’ve been taught is to stop building your life centered around your work and the number in your bank account. Instead, build your ideal lifestyle now and let your work amplify it.

To me, that’s time in faith, present time with my wife @paigenelson_12 and our three kids, training for the next bucket list fitness goal, building an amazing company that serves the world alongside great people, and to give back to our community.

Don’t overcomplicate it. Yes, money is an impact factor, but don’t let that be your North Star.
