Improvising with a celeste sound on my keyboard

At one of our shows, I improvised an impromptu version of an intro for this tune based on part of the melody and harmony. Now I like to improvise different intros with different keyboard sounds to @angel0_drums ‘a beautiful tune “Please (Don’t Push Me Away)”.

Everything starts from something simple. In 1910, a college Music professor from Spain (who fled to America from Mexico during the revolution) arrived in California and met my grandfather Salvador (my mothers father). The professor noticed Salvador had musical potential. Each evening by candlelight (and after grueling hours of field work) , the professor taught Salvador how to read music and play guitar, piano , bass and drums. The professor had a plan.... Make a band and get out of the fields. 2 years later, they created that band. (it’s the 2nd photo. The professor is playing clarinet) My grandfather died before I was born. In 5th grade , My mother put me into drum lessons at @hensonsmusiccenter and she insisted i learn to read music. She shared the story of our grandfather and said, “One day, knowing how to read & play music could financially help support you and change your life.” I loved the music of the 80’s and decided to continue working on my reading. I have been sharing my love of playing drums and reading music with each generation ever since . This Fall, my son Angelo goes into Grad school to get his Masters Degree in Music. When he was younger n grade school, I taught him to read music and he also studied piano for 7 years. It took 3 generations to go from field work to becoming a music professor. Last weekend, i recorded video of a Ranchera band in Oxnard . I asked them to play me a happy song. I told them the story of my grandfather Salvador & then showed them his band picture. They were very moved by our family story. Every little step we take can change our path. Dare to dream BIG but always remember where you came from. Through humility, commitment and hard work, our goals can become our reality.. I posted this because I wanted all my students to know why I am so passionate about teaching them to read music. The past is pictured in black and white/ the present and future are in color. 😊🙏🏽

Darling… Halloween in El Sereno just got a little dangerous. 🖤✨
The Spooky Jazz & Boo-lesque Show is where the horns are hot, the cocktails colder, and the dancers? Let’s just say they don’t keep their tricks to themselves.

An art space flips into a speakeasy — velvet shadows, a full jazz band, and burlesque with a wicked seasonal bite. This isn’t your average Halloween party, it’s our kind of night. LINK IN BIO FOR TICKETS.

🗓 Saturday, October 25 | 8 PM
— El Sereno Social Club
