More than a decade ago I met @jonpauldouglass and @anicanicole as they moved from Florida to California to follow their creative dreams right as I opened my 8 year residency JC shop on Melrose. Anica is now at Netflix and Jon Paul is still an established photographer and they both still have an elderly pug named Stella :) To maximize my short trip to Los Angeles, I booked Jon Paul for a photo shoot for new headshots and boy did he deliver! When I showed up, he brought on @sean_is_rad who does production design from Eminem music videos and more and he just did production / props on Em’s Houdini video. Sean built out a brick wall with a Johnny Cupcakes branded takeout window that they had me hanging out of, a Johnny Cupcakes branded podium that I was speaking at, and a Johnny Cupcakes branded motorbike that sent my high in the sky PeeWee style. He also enlisted @hannahliveshere / @urfavesister as a stylist who gave her unique perspective on each outfit, shot, pose, and more. As a team, we certainly made the most of this day and I’m looking forward to see the final product post edit! Before I sign off I want to remind you how important your headshot is. On your website, socials, LinkedIn, marketing, etc.. Like your business card, your headshot should tell a story about you and your craft, it should show your personality, and it should make the viewer curious enough to want to learn more. When you see these, you’ll smile and say “That’s Johnny!” and if you don’t know me, you’ll smile and say, “Who the fxxxk is this character?! I’m intrigued!” Get new headshots yearly. Lifestyle photos, editorial, ones that look good when they’re a tiny shrunken profile pic, and ones that look vibrant when they’re big! Find a photographer that you know or that you’re comfortable with. Maybe someone local or who lives in a place you’re already traveling to. Investing in yourself is a good investment. PS: Yes. I absolutely took many photos with Stella the elderly pug. I hope when I booked for a future speaking engagement that they choose one of those photos :) #losangelesphotographer #laphotographer #losangelesstylist #lastylist #laproduction #productiondesign
