Today's Oscar-qualified short is Alice Eça Guimarães's ‘Because Today Is Saturday,’ about a mother trying to find time to write. Children, laundry, and meals keep interrupting, turning a birthday wish into a portrait of invisible domestic labor.

In our interview, Guimarães discusses drawing from her lockdown experience, embracing feminist filmmaking, and contrasting a claustrophobic home with an inner garden that can grow without limits.

🪼💦FILLE DE L’EAU / WATER GIRL 💦🪼received two awards from Italy ! 🤩

🐠 JURY AWARD at @euganeafilmfestival

« For the courage to turn its gaze towards an intimate aspect of life such as motherhood, weaving it into the story of a group of women and their mutual care, as well as their care for the environment around them. The jury recognises the direction of Water Girl for its use of animation as a language capable of evoking the amniotic sensation of water and the dreamlike dimension of the film. »

« A woman tells her story through the stages of a life spent remaining true to her vocation and passion—in close contact with the life-giving, fluid environment of an as-yet-unspoiled sea. »

Thank you so much to the jury !!!🙏

Many thanks to the festivals 💙
