Kunstmuseum Appenzell
Gigon/Guyer
Appenzell, Switzerland | 1998
—
Nestled in the Swiss landscape, the Kunstmuseum Appenzell by Gigon/Guyer is an abstraction of traditional Alpine architecture. Its jagged, asymmetrical sawtooth roof echoes both local agricultural sheds and the jagged mountain peaks on the horizon. Clad entirely in overlapping, sandblasted stainless steel plates, the facade reacts beautifully to the changing weather, taking on a muted, almost leaden glow under the rain. Inside, these roof volumes translate into serene, minimalist gallery spaces flooded with diffuse, indirect zenithal daylight.
—

Step right in… if you dare 🌀✨
The madness has begun and our doors are wide open.

Enter a world where not everything makes sense (and that’s exactly the point). A mad mall of 12 rooms awaits: some strange, some wild, all wonderfully unexpected. Curiosity is your only compass… and getting lost is highly encouraged.

Follow the rhythm into our eatery, where four live acts set the tone: @_vornelinks, @lostrosflamingos, @cannelle.wav, @donnasofta & @bio.goat.

But hurry — this world doesn’t follow the rules of time.
It appears once in a blue moon (or every 10 years… who’s counting?) and disappears again in less than 24 hours.

Nomad’s Mad Land exists from 2pm until late.

So don’t miss this very important date ♠️🎩
Come wander. Get lost. Embrace the madness.

Track 3: crying selfies <3 (5:36)

cos I’m pretty when I cry… our cunty ted talk reflects on the online sad girls community, who rejects the erasure of pain, and instead indulges in it, glamourises it, as an act of resistance against the expectation of a neoliberal, capitalist society, and as an antidote to the girlboss. 🥀🖤💧

Thanks to Sven Friedli (camera), Noah Brun (sound and sound mastering), Yoah Müller (music production), Vivienne Scherer (Jennifer’s look), Patric Mustofa Orlando Sommer (Anina’s look), David Zürcher (subtitles) and Benedict Henshaw for all the help 💕

“crying selfies <3” has been acquired this winter by Kunstkredit Basel-Stadt, we’re so happy for it to have a home.
