What exactly are terpenes? 🌿

Day 1 of our Wellness Weekender is all about aroma & functional fragrance, so we’re starting with the science behind scent.

In this video, our expert and CEO, Anna Persaud @anna.persaud, explains what terpenes are, and why they matter when it comes to scent and how we feel.

Terpenes are naturally occurring compounds found in many plants. They’re responsible for much of a plant’s distinctive aroma, and can also play a role in its biological effects.

Essential oils contain complex combinations of compounds, including terpenes and sesquiterpenes. It’s this unique chemistry that gives each oil its characteristic aroma and properties.

And when we breathe these aromatic molecules in, they interact with our olfactory system and send signals to the brain, including areas involved in emotion and the sleep–wake cycle. 👃🧠

So, scent is about much more than simply smelling good. It can be part of how we create different sensory experiences throughout our day.

Our CEO, Dr Anna Persaud, sharing the story behind Own Time eau de parfum at the Barnes Fragrance Fair @barnesfragrancefair ✨

Own Time is a neuroscent designed to engage the parasympathetic nervous system through the mood-altering potential of terpene-rich aromatic essential oils.

A woody, ambery, and aromatic Eau de Parfum of bold contrasts, Own Time brings together warming notes of Pink Peppercorn, Cardamom, Sandalwood and Musk. As the scent lingers on the skin, it creates a sensory ritual to ease you into a state of comfort, relaxation and better sleep.

Discovering the connection between fragrance, neuroscience and wellbeing, Dr Anna Persaud shared how Own Time was created to help transform the evening wind-down into a moment of calm and restoration.
