FLAVOUR NOTES!
An enjoyable day in Ballsbridge, Dublin yesterday food judging for @guildoffinefood Great Taste Awards sampling a wide range of products including beef, pork, ham, cakes, biscuits, yogurt, dairy, chocolate, honey, bread, cheese, ready to eat meals, and even Christmas pudding!

Also fun to bump into foodie friends including this fine human, @blancsvalencia, the ever fabulous Shannen @divabakes, Matthew Brownie @westcorkfoodcompany who is always smiling, and rather wonderfully @annamayeveryday whom I met at a food writing workshop in Devon last year and is part of the Great Taste Team.

Were there any 3 ⭐? Maybe… you’ll have to wait to find out!

Great taste, great friends, great (est) country 🇮🇹 ♥️

96 hours in Italy, mostly working (yes it was work, thank you 😆) with a little bit of playtime at the end.

A friend said recently “you live a charmed life don’t you” 😊 And, of course, I could list ALL the reasons that are not/or have not been so charming, but to be honest, they were right, and I am ever grateful.

This is the second year I have been asked to join @greattaste_in_italy as a co-ordinator (so happy I learned Italian when I was working in travel all those years ago) and I do feel very lucky to get to eat wonderful Italian produce, with brilliant fellow judges and have everything organised perfectly to the ‘nth degree by the @guildoffinefood team 💫

Then, having a little time at the end to meet up with friends, eat more great food and explore Milan again. Charmed indeed.

⭐️⭐️⭐️All done!⭐️⭐️⭐️

⭐️Another year of Great Taste Award judging comes to an end.

⭐️I didn’t do as many days as I usually do due to recovery from my Hip Op. But the days I did do were full of delicious bounty and surrounded by the best people!

⭐️People who love food are the people to know! Always happy and great fun!

⭐️I hasten to add we do work hard .. judging is serious work and I and the other co-ordinator judges spend a lot of time making sure the feedback to the producers - from all of the judges - is fair and constructive. It is so important.

⭐️I always enjoy seeing my GT foodie friends and meeting new people. From all walks of life.

I’m quite full now! 😂

⭐️Thanks again to the Great Taste team who work so very hard to ensure it runs like clockwork.

⭐️The logistics are huge but we never see that … all we see is food continuously brought to the table professionally and always with a smile!

And Grace… your lunchtime salads in the refectory. Are INCREDIBLE! Such innovative flavours which work. EVERY TIME! 😊

Canapé prep time in readiness for my nearly sold out ‘Consider the Anchovy’ event tmrw Wednesday 29 April 18.30pm @thekitchentabledorset . This anchoïde tastes incredible made with high quality anchovies such as @conservasangelachu so different from the griege you find in French markets. Serve with beautiful vegetable crudités. The tomatoes are to be made into Trapani pesto with tomatoes, anchovies, garlic, touch of sugar, piment d’esplette, almonds, basil served on baked aubergine. There will be Aleppo pepper, anchovies, pecorino & parmesan shortbreads too. Yum.

Great Taste 2026 judging season is nearly upon us! We are looking forward to welcoming our knowledgeable, diligent, food-loving judges back into our judging rooms next week, to discover more great-tasting products.

We will begin the season with some dedicated judging days: herbal teas and chilli & hot at the Guild’s Dorset home in Gillingham, and spirits and chai in the Guild’s home in London, next to Borough Market.

We’re gearing up for the start of Great Taste judging season which means this week we hosted coordinator workshops in Dorset and London; part of our yearly training to ensure judges are as confident and knowledgeable as possible when tasting and giving feedback on products.

@ajsharpflavourfanatic discussed the evolution of food and perceptions, and the importance of remaining open-minded and objective when blind-judging.

@annamayeveryday analysed the dos and don’ts of judging, building confidence and improving feedback.

@eleanorfordfood took the judges on a journey through the history and origins of spice and the role they play in many of the products and dishes we see in the judging room.

Thank you to all the speakers, and to @dapur_cuk for providing their Great Taste 2-star product, Sambal Bawang, for the judges to taste.

What an amazing night at the @guildoffinefood Great Taste Golden Fork awards at @batterseaartscentre this week.

It was a fantastic gathering of producers, retailers, journalists, chefs and industry professionals representing thousands of hard-working and talented producers and independent retailers across the world.

I am so honoured to be a returning judge for the awards. It’s a real privilege to be able to support producers and to empower consumers with Great Taste stars.

It was so lovely to catch up with so many friends and chat to truly talented food & drink producers. AND there was plenty of delicious food & drink from winners.

Now in its 32nd year, here are the stats!..

🌟 14,340 entrants from 110 countries
🌟 3,899 1-stars
🌟 1,508 2-stars
🌟 273 3-stars
🌟 Products were judged across 7 locations in England, Ireland and Italy over 110 days by over 500 critics, chefs, recipe creators, buyers, retailers, journalists, broadcasters, and other experts in the field (including me)!
🌟 16 awards handed out (and lots of smiles and a few tears shed)

This year’s #GreatTasteAwards saw 14,340 products entered from 110 countries. Over 500 judges blind-tasted this year’s entries and it all comes down to this. 15 #GoldenFork winners and one Supreme Champion 🌟

A gathering of producers, retailers, journalists, chefs and industry professionals representing thousands of hard-working and talented producers and independent retailers across the world, the Golden Fork awards are the annual culmination of the Guild of Fine Food’s Great Taste awards scheme. Thanks to everyone who came along and to all of our Great Taste sponsors and supporters.

🏆 A total of 16 Golden Forks were awarded last night, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg of talented food and drink producers from this year’s Great Taste.

What a day! 🌟

An outstanding array of products on the judging tables as usual this year. Huge thanks to our judging team in London today.

The final panel sits down tomorrow to decide the Supreme Champion.

The #GreatTasteAwards results are announced on 29th July but the Supreme Champion won’t be revealed until this year’s #GoldenForks on 9th September! 🤫
