I was honoured to be part of an evening supporting such an important charity, with an incredible £88,000 raised. Hospitality Action provides vital support to hospitality workers facing challenging times, offering help with mental health, financial hardship and wellbeing. A special thank you to the team at Pan Pacific London for their outstanding hospitality, to all the chefs who came together to create such a memorable dining experience, and to Anne for hosting such a wonderful evening.

The one hotel metric you can’t fake. “It’s not fake. It’s real.” Pan Pacific Hotels CEO Peng Sum Choe on the morale at Pan Pacific London, where the team is intact, the occupancy is high and everyone’s smiling. That culture didn’t happen by accident. Five women opened the hotel mid-pandemic, opposite Liverpool Street (not Mayfair), and earned Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star within months. Since then, turnover has dropped from 46% to 30% and the hotel has won Best Employer at the Cateys. Anne Golden (Regional Vice President, Operations, UK & North America, and General Manager of Pan Pacific London) and her leadership team share what building it taught them about confidence, belonging and knowing when to push. Read their story via the link in bio. #hertelier #womeninhospitality #womenintravel #panpacificlondon @anne6655 @panpacificlondon @whittemore.michelle

What does building a five-star hotel teach you about leadership? Five years ago, @panpacificlondon opened during a pandemic, in a part of London not known for luxury hotels, as the first European property from a brand few London travellers knew. Since then, it has earned @forbestravelguide Five-Star status, been selected for @virtuosoltd Travel and won the Best Employer Catey by @thecaterermag For our latest hertelier story, we went back to five of the women who helped build it: Anne Golden, Kate Ruddick, Claire Gilbertson, Michelle Whittemore and Jennifer Chu. We asked what those five years taught them about confidence, culture, belonging, being underestimated and leading people. And there’s a lovely backstory to the photo too: it was taken in 2019, before the hotel existed, and was the very first image used to represent Pan Pacific London. When the hotel finally opened, they brought the same chair out and recreated it. Five years later, there’s quite a story to tell.
