Today's Book of the Day Du Jour. We don't usually like historical fiction; LOVED it! Engrossing and unpredictable...HIGHLY recommend.

"Questo libro è noioso!" 🥱❌

Come avete reagito? Raccontatecelo nei commenti! 👇

✵ Guernsey ✵

Q: Have you ever been to Guernsey?

For a small island in the English Channel, Guernsey has a truly incredible history of resilience and strength. In 1940, they were invaded by Nazi Germany by whom they were occupied for almost five years.

It is in that setting that the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I highly recommend both the book and the movie! So I thought I’d share some of my favorite quotes and photos of the island. As an American, this was a part of WWII history I didn’t learn - I didn’t know any part of the UK was invaded - but it’s a crucial part of the story.

I visited Guernsey once before but somehow it was more beautiful than I remembered. It’s actually one of my favorite places in the UK, and, in my humble opinion, should be on everyone’s bucket list. It’s a beautiful island full of rich history and such lovely people.

“Kids are the most interesting people on earth.” — Annie Barrows

And I think her Book Flight featuring sisters proves just how much she loves writing for and entertaining young readers! Annie Barrows is the bestselling author of the Ivy + Bean and Stella & Marigold series, and co-author of one of my all-time favorites, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.

For her Book Flight, she brought three books for young readers, full of sisters, imagination, humor, and a little mischief!

🍭 The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall (Middle Grade)
🍭 Big Red Lollipop by Rukhsana Khan, illustrated by Sophie Blackall (Picture Book)
🍭 Bog Myrtle by Sid Sharp (Fairy Tale - Early Chapter Book)

I love that these recommendations span different reading ages, making this a great flight for families!

🍭 What’s a children’s book you absolutely LOVE recommending? Bonus points if it’s one you loved as a kid!

🟠 🎈𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗔 & 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗢𝗟𝗗 🪏☂️{Ad:Pr} With the nights drawing in I’m ready for cosy stories. With its short chapters, dyslexia friendly font and colour illustrations, this heartwarming collection of tales is perfect for readers moving on from picture books.

🎈Stella and Marigold are sisters who live in a half house. Readers are invited into their lives to witness a sibling relationship that feels warm and full of the playful imagination of an innocent childhood before the digital age. When the duo find some writing on a wall of their home, they imagine the children who have lived in their house before them. It’s the beginning of ten interconnected chapters filled with all the ordinary moments that build to make the fabric of cherished memories.

🪏What’s brilliant in the writing is how Annie Barrows @anniebarrowsauthor captures Stella and Marigold’s relationship. It’s like opening up the window into their shared sisterhood and hearing and seeing all their secrets. Barrows observes all the little things siblings do and how the dynamics of an older and younger sister work. Sophie Blackall’s @sophieblackall artwork complements the stories showing the emotions of Stella and Marigold perfectly. Do have a peek at the pages inside so you can see what the stories are like.

☂️ If you’ve not come across this series before you’re in for a treat as this is book 3 so you can enjoy catching up!

🗣️ Let me know in the comments if you know someone who’d love this series!

So excited for the newest chapter book in the STELLA & MARIGOLD series! The third installment in this delightful series was released last week.

I met @sophieblackall at @texasbookfest last year, and she spoke about wanting a series where the kids are best friends. I’m so lucky to be the mom to some sibling besties, and I love reading them stories that reflect this friendship.

Not just for girls! My 5 year old son loves these books! Congrats on the new release! 🎉
