All images by Annie Claflin @annieclaflin 𝓡𝓮𝓰𝓪𝓻𝓭𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓦𝓪𝓿𝓮 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐞 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐧 Photography is bound to speed. The camera arrests a fraction of time, extracting an image from the duration through which an experience unfolds. In 𝓡𝓮𝓰𝓪𝓻𝓭𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓦𝓪𝓿𝓮, Annie Claflin complicates this accelerated instant by bringing the photograph back into contact with the body. Through soaking, folding, lifting, boiling, handling, water, salt, sand, pressure, gravity, and touch, the image re-enters duration. The body returns to the photographic instant. A photograph isolates an instant; a wave belongs to recurrence. One arrests; the other continues. Against technological speed, the rectilinear grid and the human-made system’s impulse to capture, Claflin’s work returns the image back into contact with the hand, body, material, natural rhythm, and time. The body that operates the camera, returns to encounter what the camera has captured. Earth / House / Hold August, 2026 #earthhousehold #annieclaflin #regardingwave #hiddencalifornia #contemporaryart

Hi! My name is Annie Claflin @annieclaflin and I’m a photo-based artist located in San Diego, California. Over the next three days, I’ll be takjng over WPANYC’s IG account by sharing a multidisciplinary project titled “Undertow”. This series consists of photographs altered through submersion in various liquids, presented as archival pigment prints, inkjet print lifts in glass jars, and salt-water boiled photographs on cradled wood panel. The work addresses my personal experience with sea level rise, my love of the coast, and my attempt to mourn a disappearing place I consider home. Here are two of my submerged photographs transferred onto transparency film and floated in jars. 1. “Molted”, 2026 Pigment, microporous coating of a pigment print, transparency film, acrylic paint, and glycerin in a glass jar 6.6 x 3.9 x 3.9 in 2. “Deep Roots”, 2026 Pigment, microporous coating of a pigment print, transparency film, acrylic paint, and glycerin in a glass jar. 6.6 x 5.5 x 5.5 in #wpanyc #wpanyctakeover

Ocean Like a Broom. “Sweep the sea, broom.”
- Gary Snyder, “Regarding Wave”🌊 The sea throughout Gary Snyder’s “Regarding Wave” is not simply peaceful or beautiful. It is a medium of currents, transformations, fertility, movement, dissolution and song. It is a realm of mergings, flowings, and transformations that unsettles fixed categories. Water passes through. Sweeping. Carrying. Rearranging. These works are part of Annie Claflin’s ongoing exploration of photography, material transformation, and the changing shoreline. @annieclaflin | www.annieclaflin.com Image 1: “The Ocean Like a Broom (Submerged)” Proof 1 Annie Claflin Archival pigment print Photo courtesy of Annie Claflin Image 2: “The Ocean Like a Broom” Proof 1 Annie Claflin Archival pigment print Photo Courtesy of Annie Claflin Regarding Wave 🌊
