In Norfolk for RHS Sandringham so grabbed the chance to see @anniegaphoto photo exhibition in Wells.

I’ve long admired her work - she’s not award-winning for nothing - but her documenting of the salt marsh in Wells is something else. Some images show its stark beauty, others are almost painterly in their approach.

Annie is one of the people who encouraged me to take my photography seriously. I owe her a lot. Just wish my photos were half as good.

The exhibition closes tomorrow (July 19) but you can see many of the photos on her website.

Annie Green-Armytage
Annie Green-Armytage is a multi-award-winning photographer. This work forms part of her long-form project on the Norfolk Saltmarsh. The images speak to the complexity of the saltmarsh ecosystem, with the plants overlaid by the salt water which both nourishes and threatens. The plants can survive underwater for short periods of time during high marsh tides, but their existence is endangered by rising sea levels and more extreme storms. All her images originate from the saltmarsh; never any AI generation.

A move to North Norfolk brought Annie Green-Armytage to explore its saltmarsh — a rare and unusual ecosystem that is under threat from rising seas and extreme storms.

In the latest issue of WE ARE Magazine from @rpswomeninphotography, Annie shares her visions of this little-known landscape and its flora and fauna across the seasons.

Image 2: An avocet, Recurvirostra avosetta, on the saltmarsh by @anniegaphoto. The avocet is the emblem of the RSPB, and symbolises bird protection.

The Beginning of the End

My submission to @circle.return has aligned with a huge shift in my family—my ageing parents moving house for the first time since 1978.

Back then, my mum was fresh out of a career as a competitive athlete, a two-time Olympian. 🌟

My dad, a deputy headteacher and former international discus thrower, was deep in his passion for coaching young athletes.

They were strong. Full of energy. Life felt big, open. 💫

After seeing @thebohobeet’s beautiful video on reconnecting with her inner child—wild, muddy, and free—I found myself drawn to what was unfolding right in front of me.

My parents, navigating this next chapter of life.

The weight—both physical and emotional—of leaving behind a home filled with 45 years of memories.

Trying to find places for old relics. Struggling without internet. Figuring out new appliances. Saying goodbye to a life they built, to start again.

Bursts of energy followed by such silence.

As my mum puts it so clearly in this short film “It the worst thing I’ve ever done in my life in terms of stress.” 🫂

Watching this hasn’t been easy. The parent-child role is reversing.

Now, they are close by, we can lighten the load for them, even just a little.

As they slow down, our children race forward—running, playing, discovering. A bittersweet contrast.

This new closeness won’t always be easy, but I see now how much they need us. 🫂

How much we all need each other. This is the beginning of the end, and we are here.

Next in this Circle @anniegaphoto will step in and continue to keep this circle alive and relevant to our everyday lives. ❤️

Special thanks to my fellow co-founders @nicola_tree @karen_yeomans and the amazing women coming together @f22aop and beyond to support this community focused creative project.

Thanks also to @iamdavidrutter for his free short film course and editing support! ♥️

Thanks to @anniegaphoto for letting me know that there is an eight page article featuring her photos of the winter garden here, currently available in Germany.
I believe that it is the February issue of ‘Wohnen and Garten’, if any of my German followers would like to have a look!
Since I last posted on here, Instagram have again changed the photo editing method - I wish that they would leave it all alone!

Coming soon…

Circle Return ‘24; The next Iteration.

We’re excited to announce that the next iteration of @circle.return is almost upon us.

We’ve been patiently brewing in the background and it’s almost a full calendar year since we first launched.

What’s new this time?

The next iteration is Moving Image.

Defined as “an image that gives the appearance of movement.” @agsa.adelaide

Each artist now has 2 weeks to form their moving image response.

What’s the same?

The artists form an all female identifying collective. ♥️

This is a response based project, each artist is given a window of opportunity to form their moving image response. 🫂

This is a safe space to push boundaries and explore new ideas. 💡

We will use instagram as our platform from which the circle will spiral, connecting one to another, to another.

Community at the heart!

Follow the circle ⭕️ and stay tuned!

Circles

Written and performed by Lisa Moore @mooretrouble1
Writer, actor, spoken word artist, poet educator

Film produced by David Roscoe-Rutter @iamdavidrutter @roscoerutter

“Borrowing from the traditional role of women as oral historians, @circle.return return is a visual conversation where each female artist has a period of seven days to respond to the previous work.

Pushing our boundaries to make work beyond the artist’s conventional practice.

Instagram becomes our virtual diary, where each week an artist makes a visual entry of her story in response to the act of listening to the previous artist’s story.

In that sense circle return is a conscious effort by a collective of women to ‘see’ each other.”

27 contributors spanning 8 months. All 27
form part of the @f22aop @assocphoto community, meeting monthly to inspire one another. The project was born out of the F22 group as a means towards providing meaningful and supportive connections and to inspire one another! Which certainly took place throughout this project! 🌟

We are deeply grateful to you all and look forward to the next iteration of @circle.return later this year.

@helenroscoephoto @nicola_tree and @karen_yeomans are the co-founders of Circle Return. For all Circle Return enquiries please message us here or via our own social handles.
