Some losses change the shape of our lives. In this conversation, Ann Mahon reflects on losing her two brothers and the quiet ways she finds comfort when she misses them — through old photographs, memories, laughter and simply allowing herself a moment of peace. Grief has no single way of being felt. Sometimes, we just need to find a little peace somewhere. Listen to the full episode through the link in bio. In this episode, I sit down with my dear friend Ann Mahon for a deeply personal conversation about grief, sudden loss, and what happens when someone we love dies far from home. Ann shares the heartbreaking story of her brother Tom, who died suddenly while on holiday in Lanzarote, and the unexpected journey that followed as the family worked to bring him home to Ireland. We talk about repatriation, the practical challenges, the waiting, and the people who helped carry some of that weight. We also talk about losing her brother John two years later, and what it means to grieve two people you always imagined growing old with. But above all, we remember Tom and John through the stories, music, laughter and little moments that keep them close — from Pink Floyd and Elvis to childhood memories that still make us smile. A heartfelt conversation about loss, family, remembrance, and finding comfort in the memories we carry. We would also like to remember Robert Breen Funeral Director, Borris, Co. Carlow, and the wonderful care and support given throughout Tom’s repatriation & funeral.
