I follow African and diasporan artists doing brilliant work across the world, and this November I’m taking 8 people to Dakar to witness them live.

This Dak’Art season, experience the Biennale the way it’s meant to be felt: intimate, insider, immersive. Stay at The Palms, move through exhibitions and artist conversations with me as your guide. Breakfasts and lunches included. Three entry points—single room, shared double, or accommodation optional—and early bird rates until 30 September.

A peek into the Studio Dialogues Collective project meetings, developing our project for Dakar!
The 16th Dak’Art Biennale of Contemporary African Art will take place in Dakar, Senegal, from November 19 to December 19.
The 16th Dakar Biennale is devoted to the theme of “(Anti)fragility.” It brings together artists from across the African continent and its diasporas worldwide, including island and archipelagic contexts. All seek to rethink our modes of living together, mutual aid, coexistence, and cohabitation—not only among humans but also with the living world. (biennalfoundation.org)
Studio Dialogues itself is an embodiment of this (Anti)fragility, and we’re beyond excited to be part of this Biennale, curated by Morad Montazami.

Sometimes, on a Friday evening, you need a chill, ambient space to be in, away from the loud, energy-taxing concerns of everyday life.

There used to be a wall mural for a while at @palmmoments [last four slides]. While different in feel, tone texture and look, it still carried the warmth and felt sense of community. It was one of my favourite things about the space, as many of us took turns over time writing a plethora of sayings, drawing symbols and leaving names on the wall to say that we’d been here before. You can imagine how I felt to have seen it painted over.

Fuelled by those same feelings + the sense that I wanted to add a new element to Soft Landing, I began thinking about what could be possible. Happening almost parallel to this was that almost exactly a year ago, I texted @anotherdayofmoonlight after sitting for weeks on this strong urge to collaborate with her on a project. We’d previously expressed interest in working with each other, but nothing had materialised up until that point. It seems to me as though reaching out was the price to pay for gaining clarity on what we would end up doing. Having pitched the idea to @anotherdayofmoonlight and @tasiacobbinah (@palmmoments), we began fine-tuning details and set about the first edition on November 14th last year.

Eternal thanks to you: @palmmoments, @tasiacobbinah, and @anotherofmoonlight for humouring my ideas & ramblings, and for your openness to bringing this to life.  Tonight, I’ll be playing all night, sharing with you some new additions to my library, feature some personal favourites and of course, traverse a few genres I’ve been enjoying recently.
