"Tenders" Sila Candansayar @silayir Text by Indira Béraud @indiberaud Cabinet & Studiolo, via Tadino 20, Milan @cabinet_studiolo @mcvalacchi @antdmno 17.11.2023-12.02.2024 On the right bicep of Sila Candansayar is tattooed the figure of Sahmeran, the emblematic heroine of an Anatolian myth. Queen of the serpents, the creature with a hybrid appearance, half-woman, half-reptile, is endowed with great beauty. Because her flesh possesses healing properties, she will be sacrificed; her body cut into three, before being offered and then devoured by several men. The first solo exhibition of Sila Candansayar, "Tenders," presented at the Studiolo gallery, weaves a narrative that borrows as much from mythology, science fiction, as from intimate and sometimes banal experiences of everyday life. It all begins on a dreary autumn evening. Those somewhat morose evenings where one no longer has the strength to cook. The artist then opts for Chicken Tenders, which she will enjoy in bed while watching a TV series. The analogy is drawn between the body of this little chicken, butchered, cooked, and fried, and the body of Sahmeran, also dismembered, then eaten by men. In this sense, the expression "poulette" or "chick," which designates an appetizing young woman, is unequivocal: tender bodies are called to be devoured. If the title of the exhibition, particularly grim, is a direct reference to the dish offered by the famous fast-food chain, it is above all the echo of a deep reflection on the female body. We’re happy to announce the opening of Cabinet & Studiolo Bureau. After 12 years spent on via Tadino - where we hosted exacly 40 exhibitions and showcased 91 artists - we moved to a 30-square-meter space in a building located on via Goldoni 15 and designed by milanese liberty architects Luigi Gho’ and Alfredo Menni in 1903, which, because of its characteristics, we called “bureau.” Two little rooms left to their understated tasteful early twentieth-century decorations, where we kept everything as it was, from the original floors to the decorative plasters, providing a break from the abstraction of our previous “white cube” and welcoming artworks in a noticeably more intimate, domestic and deliberately anti-sensationalistic environment, also allowing us to flexibly expand our upcoming curatorial projects outside the gallery both in Italy and abroad. It will open to the public on Thursday, April 4th on the occasion of the “daddovero” exhibition, a group show featuring artists LUPO BORGONOVO, VALERIA CARRIERI, MARTINA CIOFFI, ENZO CUCCHI, MARCO GOBBI, DEBORAH MARTINO, LUIGI PRESICCE and CHARLOTTE SIMONNET! ph: @michelapedranti

“Occhi, Lingue, Sangue, Stelle” Carol Rama, Cecilia Granara @ceciliagranara Curated by Spazio Cabinet - Maria Chiara Valacchi, Antonio Di Mino @cabinet_studiolo @mcvalacchi @antdmno CASSINA PROJECTS, Via Mecenate 76/45, Milan @cassinaprojects 21.09-18.11.23 Inevitable differences - due to logical biographical and generational gaps - that nevertheless find their strong points of intersection and vivid interchange in three fundamental attitudes: in the habitual recurrence of female iconography, in the exercise of an intrinsically 'political' painting and in the choice of pain - in its infinite declinations - as a profound primary source of knowledge. Rather than a symbiotic figure, Carol Rama becomes for Cecilia Granara an alter-ego with whom she establishes an exchange of echoes, whose contents - in the same way as the physical phenomenon - seem apparently the same but are returned to her, and to us, with a substantial change of frequency, multiplying and enriching them with meanings; a metaphorical deforming mirror for the artist to confront herself on the complexities of the body, on the dualism of death and life instinct, while negotiating painting as a simultaneously physical and emotional space, incessantly reproducing eyes, tongues, blood and stars.
