Dive into the inspiration and process behind ‘Pantomime’ – winner of the 2026 edition of CHART Public 🎪🏵️

Following an open call competition in the spring, ‘Pantomime’ by Mads Vagn Jacobsen (@mads.vagn), Frederik Lykkeberg Larsen (@frederiklykkeberg) from @antenna_works & Oliver Sundqvist (@o.sundqvist).

Hear interviews with the winning team, Julie Quotrup Silbermann (@juliesilbermann), Director CHART and Peter Bur Andersen (@peterburandersen), part of this year’s Jury, as they reflect on the important role that Pantomime as a total installation in the heart of Copenhagen, setting the tone for guests at CHART 2026.

“After The Applause” , was shown at chartartfairs startcollecting. It sort wraps up and portraits a very fun but also intense period of doing the pantomime courtyard with @antenna_works and “An ode to Nyhavn” with @v1gallery. Basically a complete circus! Thanks for everyone involved and special thanks to @chart_artfair for another great year 🎪🎪🎪

CHART Public welcomes Pantomime 🎭 a theatrical installation inside the courtyards at Charlottenborg.

For the second time, CHART Public combines an immersive staging at Charlottenborg with the Public Programme of performances and live music. Earlier in the spring we sent out an open-call for innovative stagings with a distinct wow-factor.

Reimagining the courtyards at Charlottenborg as a total installation, the winning team behind Pantomime has proposed an inspiring scenography that will set the stage for CHART 2026. Like a circus arriving in the city, Pantomime draws on a theatrical tradition turning Charlottenborg’s courtyards into an open, continuous stage where visitors are invited to step into the role of performer.

The team behind Pantomime includes architects Mads Vagn Jacobsen (@mads.vagn) & Frederik Lykkeberg Larsen (@frederiklykkeberg) from Antenna Works (@antenna_works) in collaboration with artist Oliver Sundqvist (@o.sundqvist)

Blue pigmented concrete furniture pieces sit on a continuous grey resin floor, each monolith proportioned directly from the column and truss rhythm of the existing warehouse structure. The tabletops are a single flat slab in the same blue concrete, bolted directly onto cast concrete block legs with exposed galvanized fixings. A square mirror panel is set flush into the white painted wall at floor level, its frame left raw. The original glazier’s workshop structure remains visible overhead, white painted throughout.

SILCO HAUS selected this project because the blue does exactly one thing and does it at every scale. Antenna Works took a single pigment decision and carried it from the floor plane through the furniture mass to the wall panel, so the colour is never accent — it is the material logic of the entire intervention.

CHART Public Winner Announcement! 🎪 After reviewing submissions from designers, architects, scenographers and artists from across the Nordics, the jury invited 3 finalist teams to present their ideas, before selecting 1 winner:

Pantomime draws on a theatrical tradition rooted in gesture, exaggeration, and collective spectacle, turning Charlottenborg’s courtyards into an open, continuous stage. Like a circus arriving in the city, the installation temporarily occupies the courtyard, transforming it into a stage for collective experience.

The jury has also selected 2 teams who they would like to give honourable mentions to:

• ‘Sisters’ by Áron Koch (@kh_aron), Robert Olsson (@robbearth), Charles Palmborg (@charliepalmborg) & Maciej Rojek (@maciejrrojek)

• ‘A space of borrowed gravity’ by Victor Hauerslev Munch (@victormunch) & Jacob Billesbølle (@_blurkid_)
