It’s time for the official opening of Bleu, blauw, μπλε, blau, blue – Compositions, together with two new exhibitions: KM (New) Icons and Mondrian & The Road to Abstraction. Come join us tomorrow, Saturday, 10 October: all-day celebration! The Hague is invited to visit the museum for free this weekend!

“Bleu, blauw, μπλε, blau, blue – Compositions. In this new edition of Mix & Match, Antonis Pittas explores how art, politics, and ideology are intertwined. From the visual language of modernism and De Stijl, the color blue is central. Blue, in turn, refers to De Stijl, NATO, spirituality, and political power, and raises questions about ideals such as peace, unity, and progress.
By combining works from the Kunstmuseum Den Haag collection with architecture, archival material, and new installations, Pittas shows that color, form, and composition can not only be aesthetic, but also carry ideological meaning.”

On display until March 7, 2027, @kunstmuseum.nl

OPENING TONIGHT | Antonis Pittas | 2026 Shanghai Jing’an International Sculpture Project

The 2026 Shanghai Jing’an International Sculpture Project will open to the public tonight with the exhibition 'Shapes of Becoming', bringing together 33 artists and artist collectives from 14 countries, presenting 36 works. Close to 70% are newly commissioned. Artist Antonis Pittas also contributes to the project with his new installation "YOU".

“The world, though made, is yet being made; that this is still the morning of creation.”

Technological development continues to transform the scale and speed at which we perceive the world and understand change. Today, from the internet and algorithms to artificial intelligence, once-familiar boundaries between the real and the generated, creation and imitation, human and machine, experience and imagination, are continually shifting, giving rise to new forms of knowledge and creative practice.

Against this backdrop, 2026 JISP takes “Shapes of Becoming” as its theme, inviting artists and artist collectives from 14 countries to respond, through sculpture, to a reality in constant transformation.

Bringing together artistic practices across different media, generations, and cultural contexts, 2026 JISP considers how sculpture today can be reimagined and experienced anew in public space.

The installation "YOU' will be on view until 31.12.2026.

Location: Jing’an Sculpture Park, Shanghai

Country Ceiling Aa3 (2014) @emstathens on view part of the exhibition SOUTH BY SHOUTHEAST. Country Ceilings is an ongoing investigation into the history, meaning, and aesthetics of parliamentary architecture on the one hand, and the relationship between economics and politics on the other. In this context, a key focus is the complex and at times paradoxical relationship between political representation and aesthetic representation.

The title of this specific work, Caa3, refers to the country ceiling rating given to Greece by the credit rating agency Moody’s at the end of 2013. If the rating changes in the future, the title of the work will also change (its current title is Aa3 Country Ceiling).

Brouwersgracht 196, Prinseneiland 7 and Nieuwe Spiegelstraat 10: these are just a few of the Amsterdam addresses where de Appel has been located during the last fifty years.

The upcoming publication ‘Correspondences: de Appel 1975-2025’ looks at the relational history of de Appel through the archived correspondence of these years. In the book the many moves of the institution can be traced through the letters, telegrams, faxes and postcards exchanged by de Appel from its former locations in the City Centre, Oud-Zuid and Nieuw-West.

For two weeks, from Saturday October 25th, we are reconnecting to de Appel’s former neighbourhoods by situating correspondence featured in the book nearby historical addresses of de Appel, to both celebrate the book and to announce the launch on December 12.

The series of sixteen posters, featuring postcards by a.o. Carolee Schneemann and Chris Burden, letters by James Lee Byars and Goran Đorđević, faxes by Louise Lawler and Nan Goldin and emails by Will Holder and Alison Knowles, takes you on a tour from the Brouwersgracht 196 to the current de Appel address at Tolstraat 12. Each featured document is accompanied by a QR code which leads to an audio clip providing more context to the document, such as the exhibition or project it’s connected to, and its relation to the location of the poster.

You can find the posters at and around:

Brouwersgracht 196
Prinseneiland 7
Nieuwe Spiegelstraat 10
Eerste Jacob van Campenstraat 59
Prins Hendrikkade 142
Schipluidenlaan 12
Tolstraat 160

The poster series is compiled by editors of the book Martha Jager and Hannah Cheney and designed by Bardhi Haliti and Zuzana Kostelanská.

Many thanks to the Amsterdam 750 Foundation for its support and for including the poster series in their program in celebration of Amsterdam's 750th anniversary.

Four weeks of noodle soup and art shows, remote working, different time zones, museum meetings, missing and not missing, translation apps, home exchanges, talking with strangers, singing with cab drivers. From Seoul, Tokyo, Beijing to Shanghai. Biked in every city just to feel at home. Loved every second. 💔

(When I got back someone asked me if I ever get tired of looking at art)

I visited Antonis Pittas’s studio this week and it was truly inspiring. I loved how he connects material, form, colour, and perception in his work, turning them into a kind of visual language with a political layer hidden beneath. Talking about the structure and mathematics of the Greek language was also a real pleasure.🇬🇷
I’m looking forward to his upcoming exhibition and new book. 🔵💙 @antonispittas.studio
