POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I’m thrilled to announce DEEP DOWN, my newest curatorial project with Irina Toshkova (@tfaadvisory), presented at Atlanta Art Fair 2026, October 1–4 at Pullman Yards’ Porter Hall, Booth F03. Irina and I have been working together since 2016, so this year marks 10 years of collaboration! For this milestone, we brought out an all-star lineup of artists from New Orleans, Miami, Atlanta, Detroit, Baltimore, Charlotte, Los Angeles, Harlem and New Haven whose practices push us to look beyond the surface.

***

Objects and images can hold histories, memories, contradictions and meanings that aren’t always immediately visible or legible. The act of looking deeper can often shift what we understand something or someone to be.

DEEP DOWN asks:
What lies beneath the surface?
What is carried within us?
What remains unseen?

These 14 interdisciplinary artists make space for complexity by challenging our perceptions of what can be immediately seen and understood. Across their practices - through materiality, scale and form - perception becomes a point of departure, opening up space for what is felt, remembered, inherited, imagined and understood.

Our Blackness is often read from the surface. DEEP DOWN asks us to look beyond what is immediately visible, and then to look again. What appears to be one thing can become another the longer we stay with it.

A surface is never only a surface.
An object is never only an object.
Deep down, we are more than the surface can contain.

Come see DEEP DOWN at Atlanta Art Fair, Toshkova Fine Art, Booth F03, October 1–4.

@fruitofthejoom brother, according to the algorithm your article about me dropped exactly a year ago today. i remember walking into @forkeepsbooks meeting you for the first time talking your head off and you still ended up hitting me with “my brother you’re interesting, i want to write a story on you 😅”. that decision changed my life brother. folks still hit me up about this saying they heard my distinct ass voice on the radio haha. i really gained another brother the first time we met that day. forever grateful. link still in my bio!

I don’t know who to throw the ball to

Appreciate everyone who came by the @newideacorp booth at AVAILABLE WORKS this weekend. We exhibited a glimpse of the CD archive we recently acquired from Elliott Wilson’s Estate— filled with promo joints, instrumentals, and classic mixtapes. Big thanks to @somethingspecialstudios @geoffsnack @wsanyc for bringing it all together

Look at this lineup!!! We’re bringing out our colleagues who are actively collecting, preserving, and sharing Black arts writing ephemera for a for a two-day convening in Seattle!

▶️ Swipe to see the who’s who and CLICK THE LINK in bio to RSVP and join us!

✍🏾The (Printed) Matter of Black Arts Writing: Archives for the Future considers what it means to engage with the printed matter of Black art worlds—flyers, pamphlets, zines, notebooks, and books—at a time when the digital is often assumed to be the primary and most permanent repository of knowledge. Through public and private conversations and workshops, the program explores the significance of gathering around materials that are fragile and prone to disappearance, and reflects on how contemporary practices of preserving and circulating Black arts writing ephemera shape future intersections of Black art, writing, and community.

How do we gather around objects that fade, crease, and disappear—and what do those gatherings reveal about the futures of Black art, writing, and community?

*mic drop* 🎤 join us!
