" IN THE BREAK ", a group show curated by Aziz Sohail opened Tuesday December 23rd, 2025 @ Canvas Gallery, featuring works by Anushka Rustomji, Bibi Hajra, Maha Ahmed, Nusra Latif Qureshi and Sara Khan.

The exhibition visits practices that are produced in/with/against/in proximity to the break. The artists draw upon diverse mythologies, embodied experiences, diasporic and migrant desires and dreams, to depict worlds that are both fantastical and yet relatable. They depict daily stories and lives amidst a moment of mediatised genocide, anti-immigrant sentiment, political breakdown and climate catastrophe.

As the curator writes ‘How do we think of these very large events and where do they dovetail with our daily life? How do we navigate this with the monotonous bureaucracy of the state; tasks of caring for ourselves and families, of moving and removing, settling and resettling, milestones of graduation and life – responsibilities that are much more present and visible, the minor key as it were. How to think about practice and the invisible labour of it – especially for artists as mothers, artists as migrants, artists as caregivers, amidst a destroyed ecology – of air that is unbreathable, streets that are unwalkable?’

Looking at the works closely, one witnesses bodies – human and non-human – suspended in time and space, architectural and urban landscapes – imagined and real, flora and fauna bursting through seams and cracks. There is a feeling of haunting, even amidst much joy and beauty – an eerie sense that the balance may be disrupted, in the tenuous and temporary 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬.

The exhibition remains open daily until Thursday, January 1st, 2026, from 11 am - 7 pm (closed Sundays)

Last chance to see today The Land Sings Back @drawingroomlondon

A thoughtful drawing exhibition looking at environmental justice, bringing together 13 artists from South Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean.

Made from afar, these drawings are a restorative practice — a way for artists to speak about their land, memory, and the communities most affected.

A perfect Sunday outing in Bermondsey. And while you’re there, don’t miss @whitecube for Howardena Pindell.

INGRAINED: Wood in a Cross-Section of Time
From sheltering ancestors to echoing in instruments, wood carries centuries of memory — of growth, rupture, and renewal. This exhibition invites you to read the grain, to hear stories etched in bark and heartwood, and to witness how trees have held space for us — in myth, in memory, in making.

The show was on view from 12 August to 6 September 2025 at KOEL Gallery, Karachi, curated by Zahra Ebrahim and Naila Mahmood.

Amid climate collapse and colonial legacies, can art help us reimagine our bond with the planet — not as exploiters, but as kin?

In 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘉𝘢𝘤𝘬, thirteen artists from South Asia, Africa and the Caribbean reimagine our relationship with the planet through drawing, not as an act of illustration or classification, but as an active agent of social history, Indigenous knowledge and ecofeminist philosophy. Their works unravel entanglements between human, vegetal and animal worlds, revealing how botanical consciousness can reshape relationships, nurture reciprocity and tackle infrastructural collapse through non-extractive relationships with land.

Curated by Natasha Ginwala (@natasha_ginwala), Artistic Director of Colomboscope, the works in the show build new alliances between artists and researchers across the Global South and the UK. Through drawings, sound works, zines, ceramics and archival explorations, the artists engage with pressing questions around coloniality, multispecies ecologies and environmental justice.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘉𝘢𝘤𝘬 is presented by Colomboscope (@colomboscope) and Drawing Room (@drawingroomlondon), with a dynamic public programme shaped by communal pedagogy and research-led practice. Don’t miss this thought-provoking show, #onview until December 14 at Drawing Room in London, UK.

Seeing the incredibly curated group exhibition 'The Land Sings Back' @drawingroomlondon

"The Land Sings Back reimagines our relationship to our breathing planet through the work of thirteen artists with ancestries across South Asia, Africa and the Caribbean. Engaging with these cultural vocabularies through a lens of environmental justice, the exhibition approaches drawing as an active agent of social history, Indigenous knowledge and ecofeminist philosophy, rather than as a tool of illustration, classification and conquest." - Press Release
