10 years ago today my debut web series #nateandjamie premiered on YouTube. What was supposed to be a one off comedy sketch based on a story @joshuaesamuels told me, turned into an award winning web series with two spinoffs #imperfectwebseries and #newlywedswebseries

I don’t know why I decided to start my independent career doing web series 😂 especially with 0 budget, a dslr camera and my friends helping me along the way!

I’ve now done 4 web series including #taliaversus and maybe another on the way 🤐🤫

If you have an idea and you’ve been holding off, this is your sign to make it!

This franchise turned into a multi award winning franchise, I learned so much which helped shape my career to where it is now!

This is a huge THANK YOU to everyone who worked on each show!

What I didn’t know about film directors…

Having the opportunity to watch @walkwithw during the audition process for their upcoming short film really changed my perspective on what a director’s role actually is.

Before this, I mostly associated directing with having a creative vision. This day showed me it’s knowing how scenes should look, how stories should feel, and how characters should be portrayed. However, watching the auditions unfold made me realise how much of directing is also about collaboration and trust.

There’s such a fine line between holding onto your own vision for a character while still giving actors enough creative freedom to bring their own interpretation, emotions, and characteristics into the role. Watching that balance in real time helped me understand just how intricate the role of a director can be.

The room felt safe and open enough for actors to play with the characters they were auditioning for. There was space for experimentation, adjustments, and honest performances. You could feel how much the environment impacted the energy in the room.

What stood out to me most was how quickly small changes could completely shift the tone of a scene; a pause, shift in movement, the way two actors interacted with each other. Depending on the direction given, the storyline could feel heavier, softer, more tense or more emotional.

Watching director Jamal and producer @aoniyide communicate those adjustments so clearly and shift the portrayal of the characters in such a short amount of time made me realise that directing is just as much about understanding people as it is understanding film.

Actors this one’s for you

We put @aoniyide on the spot with some quick fire questions about making self tapes, going to drama school and what the industry doesn’t tell actors…

What’s your biggest challenge as an actor right now?

We had to come show @opzavelli support for his bday because he is also ‘Unc’ age now. I think the mocktails made me wavvvy 🍸

Yesterday we had our second video shoot for the Rise of the Creatives Podcast

And honestly, it was such an inspiring day.

Since launching Rise of the Creatives in February, we’ve already felt so encouraged by the impact we’ve started to make. In such a short space of time, we’ve been able to connect with some amazing creatives, share their stories, and highlight opportunities that can help others grow in their own journeys.

Yesterday was another reminder of why this platform matters so much.

We had the chance to sit down with 3 talented creatives and hear about their experiences, challenges, passions, and personal journeys. Every story was different, but each one was filled with honesty, resilience, ambition, and the courage to keep going.

That’s what ROC is all about.

Creating a space where creatives feel seen, heard, and inspired.

A space where stories can be shared in a real way, where people can learn from each other, and where opportunities are made more visible and accessible to the community.

There’s something so special about being in a room with people who are building with intention, stepping into who they are, and being open enough to share what that journey really looks like.

We’re still in the early stages, but we’re so proud of what we’ve built so far and even more excited for what’s ahead.

Huge thank you to the creatives who joined us for yesterday’s shoot and trusted us with your stories 🫶🏾

More podcast content coming soon… stay tuned 👀
