For some people, Mother’s Day is complicated.

This Mother’s Day, Project Altar collaborated with youth grief charity A Part of Me to bring messages for mums who are no longer with us into the public space.
Photos, memories, and words we wish we could still say were gathered across London — carried by hot air balloon, and released at dusk across the water on floating lanterns.
For the ones we miss.
Because grief is love continuing.

We met @apartofmeapp at TechTalks # 2 - a charity helping young people cope with grief through a free therapeutic game and creative digital tools.
They’re now developing a new project -Pathlight - and are looking for volunteers (web dev, UX, social media, or game analysis).

Celebrating One Year as a Living Wage Employer and the Power of Connection Across NCEL 💙❤️💜

Last week, we hosted our Living Wage 1st Year Anniversary and NCEL Breakfast Networking Event. It was a vibrant and inspiring morning that brought together our NCEL funded organisations/VCSEs from across North Central and North East London. The event was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on the impact of our shared achievements, celebrate one year of being a Living Wage employer, and strengthen the partnerships that continue to drive meaningful change.

Packed with organisations who are providing essential end of life and bereavement support, our aim is to help you reach these life-raft services the moment you need them. We’re adding new organisations every day, and are soon releasing our US Directory, so please get in touch if you know about a resource we should add. We don’t charge the organisations listed on our Directory, this is a free public resource that connects those who need help with the incredible workers, charities, and ethical enterprises who can provide that help.

OURFEST 2023
what an experience that was:) to bring all of our like minds together in one space was something i never thought i would be able to do. but we did it! i am inspired by each one of you, hearing your stories and experiences was SO empowering.
i feel honoured to be joined on this journey by you in our fight for better mental health
we have a lot of work to do, but i feel so hopeful for the future and excited for the difference this generation of young people is going to make in the world.

To mark my own tradition ‘Día de Muertos / Day the Death’ I am sharing the last post for The Firefly Project.

Looking forward for more of this project in the future. Meanwhile, if you are interested in sharing your story about your process dealing with grief get in touch, your experience can really help the team design better tools to assist others.

We are in a process of collective grief. Not only within our human family but for the planet and all the life in it. Make sure you find a way to look into this grief, don’t ignore it, find help and reach out if you need to.

The Journey to the Dark Goddess

Begin your journey at an opening which leads underground. This can be a real or imaginary location, the important thing is the feeling of going beneath the surface of the earth. As we enter and darkness closes around us we affirm our intention to journey deep beneath the earth in search of the cavern of the Dark Goddess. The passage grows steeper and as we descend we feel a heavy cord of red white and black threads which serves as a handrail. Going deeper there are steps which spiral down into a subterranean passage of utter darkness. With only the cord to guide we descend deeper along the passageway which finally opens into a huge natural cavern lit by a pale luminosity. A vast pool of water gleams in the center of the cavern fed by a quiet yet steady stream. We must wade across this pool to reach the far shore. The water is cold and deep but it does not engulf us, only we feel the sorrow of the world as we enter and pass to the other side. There in a cleft in the cavern wall a mysterious presence can be felt. The shape is of a huge dark woman turning and dancing in the darkness beyond, or is it a great snake?

The eyes of the Dark Lady look out at us and pierce our very hearts, opening them to the feeling of all that is true and real with us as stripping away the barriers which shield the most vulnerable places of our being.

As we approach the cleft we see there are three great stone steps leading up to the cleft and beyond in the darkness we know there is the mystery we seek.

At the bottom of the steps a priestess stands, holding in one hand a bowl and the other a staff. To pass her and approach the steps we must place into the bowl the thing which we most wish to hold onto.

Once we place this thing, whatever it represents into the bowl , she raises her staff and allows us to pass.

Each step is an eternity of time.
