We’re highlighting how soccer is bringing Atlanta communities together ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026™.

Families, students, and neighbors recently gathered at Benteen Park for Una Comunidad, Un Gol (“One Community, One Goal”), a community soccer activation hosted by Welcoming Atlanta @welcomingatlanta in partnership with Sons of Pitches FC and Benteen Elementary School.
Soccer connects people across cultures and generations while building community in neighborhoods across the city.

Did you know there are some zip codes in our city with NO grocery stores?! If you live in one of these neighborhoods, you know. While kids are starting their first week of Summer break, there are serious issues being discussed to figure out how to fund initiatives and projects that will improve ATL’s neighborhoods. Mayor @andreforatlanta spoke for several hours at the City Council’s Community Development/ Hunan Services (CDHS) Committee meeting on Tuesday. He presented updates to his plan to invest tax dollars to improve our neighborhoods. The mayor explained why access to fresh, affordable food matters for every Atlantan.

Mayor Dickens detailed how he tried hard to convince grocery stores to build in underserved neighborhoods.

Far too many communities still lack nearby grocery stores and healthy food options. Through the Neighborhood Reinvestment Act, the city can bring in grocery stores, expand access to fresh food, and build stronger, healthier communities for every Atlantan. 🍎🥒🧀🍼🍯

Because all of Atlanta’s youth deserve the best of Atlanta.

𝐄𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐀𝐫𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐝, 𝐉𝐫. is the embodiment of excellence without limitation. A scholar, servant leader, athlete, artist, and advocate, Emory has spent the last four years leaving an extraordinary mark on Booker T. Washington High School and the broader Atlanta community. As a dedicated member of the Distinguished Gentlemen’s Club powered by Project ExC²EL, he embraced every opportunity to grow as a leader, refine his voice, and serve others with purpose and integrity.

Ranked in the Top 10% in his class with a 3.9 GPA, Emory successfully balanced the demands of the rigorous Early College Dual Enrollment Program while excelling across academics, athletics, civic engagement, and the arts. His remarkable achievements earned him recognition as a Posse Scholar — one of the nation’s most prestigious scholarship honors — resulting in a full scholarship to George Washington University. He also earned the distinction of being named Mr. Early College/Dual Enrollment for the 2025–2026 school year.

Beyond the classroom, Emory’s leadership and impact have been far-reaching. He served on the Atlanta Public Schools Student Advisory Council and the Democracy Fest Youth Council, advocating for student voice and civic engagement. He led as Co-Captain of the swim team, competed in cross country, track, and baseball, and captained the Region Champion One Act Play production. Through poetry, spoken word, and community service initiatives such as Hosea Feeds the Hungry and MLK Day of Service, Emory consistently demonstrated empathy, discipline, and a deep commitment to uplifting others.

Through Project ExC²EL, Emory not only developed into a distinguished young man, but also into a leader prepared to create meaningful change in the world around him. His journey reflects the very essence of scholarship, leadership, brotherhood, and service.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” — Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On April 2nd, in advance of the metro-wide Spring Break, Mayor Dickens @andreforatlanta held a press conference to launch Student Opportunities: ATL (S.O. ATL)— a Year of the Youth initiative focused on one simple idea: giving Atlanta’s teens access to information on safe spaces, real opportunities, and positive environments to spend their time.

Through S.O. ATL, we’re recruiting citywide partners — community organizations, businesses, clergy, schools, and youth groups — to offer internships, jobs, programs, events and resources to youth and caregivers.

Visit www.ATLYearoftheYouth.com to download guides, register for jobs, access FAQs, register to employ youth and connect with partner sites.

Spread the word: Parents, please stay engaged. Know where your children are, and remember curfew laws are in place to protect our young people.

⏰ Citywide Curfew: 11pm weekdays & 12 midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. *Employers please be mindful when scheduling shifts for teens under 18.

While youth enjoy a Spring Break, it’s time to lock-in Summer Opportunities. Potential program partners and employers should follow @atlyearoftheyouth and visit the site to register to join the effort. Help us by hiring Atlanta youth. Assist with sharing the information.

The Mayor was joined by Senior Advisor, Janean Lewis, Superintendent Dr. Bryan Johnson @apsupdate , Nick Clark (@atlteenleadersacademy ) and Genesiss Hollins (@spelman_college student).

They say it takes a village to raise a child. We need you. Our youth need us. 💙 Links are in the bio.
