Barley Rantilla of Youngstown, Ohio based Rebreather took some time out of his day to chat with me about Chaos Patterns, Rebreathers forthcoming record (Out Oct 30th on Aqualamb Records).

Ever walk into a room grumpy, only to leave feeling like a weight has been lifted? Barley from the legendary underground band Rebreather reveals the secret catharsis found in their rehearsal space. After nearly three decades of making music together, the band has learned that the stress of daily life simply evaporates the moment they start playing. While the lead singer admits to using the mic as a personal therapy session, the whole crew finds release in the sheer intensity of their sound. It’s a raw reminder of why bands stick together for 30 years: the music doesn't just sound good, it heals. @rebreather_band

Next show is 10/17 at @vansmokey upstate. Video by @kewlhaze “Led by vocalist/ guitarist Michael Guggino, Brooklyn trio Freaky Wilderness’s debut is a wonderfully fuzzy and energetic
introduction to the band. Accompanied by Alleen Brophy on bass and Christian Rutledge on drums, Guggino has conjured a record that sits in the sweet spot where the
psych-edged stoner-rock of bands such as Dead Meadow and Nebula collides with the gruff melodic explorations of Crazy Horse and Howlin Raim. In the process the band has come up with the kind of gnarly classic-rock album that you don’t hear enough of in the current musical climate.
For proof, take the shimmering psych stew of the centrepiece and title track that snakes and pulses with style. Or opener
‘Spirit Spouse’, on which the spirit of the aforementioned Dead Meadow is summoned.
Then there’s Smudge The Sky’, which demonstrates that behind the fuzzed-up riffs, wailing solos and stoned grooves, there are some deft songwriting chops at work.”

Freaky Wilderness, Crisper, Psychic Lines & special guests Stench Live at Van Smokey! Saturday, October 17 at 8PM.

Freaky Wilderness — Brooklyn heavy psych loaded with cosmic fuzz, acid-western swagger and big, dirty riffs.

Crisper — rock ’n’ roll shredders forged in the dirty Catskills.

Psychic Lines — genre-bending Brooklyn psych-pop with dark humor, surreal storytelling and Leonard Cohen-meets-Warren Zevon energy.

Stench — categorization is futile. The usual laws do not apply.

Four bands. One loud-ass night. 🔥

Emily Robb & ER Band + Beware Wolves Live at Van Smokey! Saturday, October 3rd at 8PM.

Emily Robb & ER Band bring raw, experimental rock & roll — hypnotic guitars, psychedelic repetition, noise and distortion that stretch rock music into stranger territory .

Aqualamb Records’ Beware Wolves brings a different kind of trip — freak folk, alt-country and off-kilter Americana built around great songwriting, acoustic guitar and soaring vocals.

Come hungry. Get a drink. Stay for the noise.

Next up in our @lowtheband Cover series is the moody rendition of Everybody’s Song from @arms.armour

“Everybody’s Song” has been a perennial favorite of ours, an earwig whenever we travel and play other places. We’d never formally discussed covering it or any Low song for that matter. But wiith Mimi’s passing, this powerful song crept back into our minds and a cover felt right. Mimi is sorely missed. “
