Souq Al Shujaiyyah’s adaptive reuse proposal model, exhibited at @mukhtabr.

Designed with Eman Al Yaarubi. The project explores the concept of adaptive reuse by transforming an existing concrete structure in the district of Muttrah into a contemporary theater institution that embodies the intersection of architecture, art, and community; highlighting the role of design as a tool for urban regeneration and the reinforcement of cultural
identity within the evolving context of Omani cities.

It’s been one week since we wrapped up the second edition of @omdesignweek
Thank you to all the participants whose work and presence shaped this edition, and to @by.designoman for trusting me with the curatorial direction.

Between Us began as a way to bring people together through design, and I’m grateful to have seen those connections manifest across ideas, objects and spaces.

Thank you to everyone who passed by and stopped to watch, play, assist a stranger, or cheer a friend. Our installation was made for you.

In our eyes, there was no better way to introduce our take on placemaking than to simply allow a 20m² chessboard fill the space between us.

We are grateful for our colleagues, the fabrication team, the hosts and organizers of Oman Design Week @by.designoman , and for the curator of ODW 2026- Majeda Al Hinai @majedaalhinai for her trust and support for our vision.

" حيث نتكئ معا" " the way we lean “

Chess as a tool for placemaking and urban activation, demonstrated in real time at Oman Design Week 2026.

It wouldn’t be a true activation of public space without engaging the public. To achieve that, we designed urban chess considering both players and spectators. Beyond that, we made sure the result was practical to install in any setting.

At a scale large enough to draw a crowd, and with abstracted forms of architecture that we pass by everyday, we introduced an iteration of the universal game that needs no translation or introduction.

Today we close the doors to the Oman Pavilion at @labiennale.
This is how it all came together.

For the past six months, Traces has welcomed thousands of visitors into a space shaped by memory, tradition, and the desire to gather.

It was never just an object. It was a process;
a journey that spanned conversations, algorithms, time zones, and trust.

Rooted in the tradition of the Sablah, the pavilion wasn’t built for spectacle.
It was built for presence, reflection, and shared time.

To everyone who walked through, paused, asked questions, took photos, or simply sat beneath its canopy: thank you.
You became part of the story.
