Alternative Domesticities An exhibition and public discussion organised together with @callumsymmons as part of the @archifringe 2025, presenting three mid-century housing projects across the central belt of Scotland: through a new series of images documenting the buildings as they exist today, exhibited alongside a series of drawings of the originally constructed designs. Considerations between their original construction and their current occupancy, between their inhabitants and their designers, and between the medium of the drawing and the photograph.as well as the historical background, relevance, and significance of the work - were discussed in a public dialogue with the historian Alistair Fair and the architect Fiona McLachlan. Exhibited in the old premises of George & Browns Engineers, now @browns.leith .

New @archifringe theme and open-call for festival 2027 launches today! HOME* is the focus; at a range of scales; domestic, national, international - and the title encourages us to think of home as a predominantly public rather than private matter. In a time of an official housing emergency (Scottish Government), how might a subtle shift of emphasis, from housing to home, help us unlock some of the fundamental issues underlying these most universal of concerns, and architectures potential roles and possibilities when addressing them? And how might concerns of how we live better together at home, be connected to concerns of life, land and self-determination abroad? Follow @archifringe to get involved and read the full provocation; we’re looking forward to seeing how Scotlands architectural, creative and activist communities might respond to this topic! We want the fringe to be a platform for critical, engaged and active creative and cultural production; and are excited to be working on a new programme that embodies this - more on that soon… (*is where I want to be, but I guess I’m already there?)

Join us at the SEDA Conference 2026: Common Ground in September - for a Prefiguritive Practice Workshop with @scott.mcaulay Scott McAulay is a Regenerative Designer, Facilitator and Strategist, an architectural worker, and has spent the last decade extending the horizons of sustainability in architecture through activism, cultural production, non-traditional education and sustainable practice. They honed their practice through the Anthropocene Architecture School (2019-2025), a self-sustained un/learning project that fused architectural, community, and political education with explorations of Climate Literacy, Agency, Spatial Justice, and the Radical Imagination. Scott’s work prefiguratively challenges, and creates spaces from which we can collectively imagine beyond, today’s cultures of inertia towards climate action and housing justice through temporary educational activations of space - connecting, welcoming and supporting groups outwith the construction sector, and has involved contributing to >150 events internationally. Scott is a Co-Producer with the @archifringe a member of Fuel Poverty Action and @living_rent and they have taught widely across Scotland, the British Isles, mainland Europe and Turtle Island, were a co-creator of Retrofit Reimagined 2023, and contributed to the open-access anthology The Pedagogies of Reuse: The International School of Re-Construction. They are in the @circularartsnet first Circulations cohort and is studying towards a Permaculture Design Certificate with the @propagate.scotland 2026 Glasgow cohort. Then I moved to >>Edinburgh<< and the essay film moved with <<me<< #tcodwt #designresearch #architecturebydesign #essayfilm #architecturalessayfilm When it arrived with me in Edinburgh, where I now call my new home —from the place I once called home— to be shown at an exhibition @archifringe in an old industrial warehouse on the Leith waterfront in June 2025, <<the dust from that footage>> mingled with <<the dust of this warehouse,>> which had not been used for years.

Portraits from an amazing week at @archifringe Earth Station summer school up in @hospitalfield in Arbroath. Hard to put this incredible week into words, but for now here are portraits recording the incredible work of participants in my “Stone Circle” learning leatherwork, symbolic tool making, and costume making all in a few days. Participants costumes and ceremonial tools use a mix of natural materials from the grounds and other groups (mud to create masks, reeds from the thatching group), in combination with waste man-made materials. Inspirations took in ideas including pigeons, satellite dish as ceremonial flag pole, the intimacy of late night conversations, thatching, angels, Pictish stones, monk habits, rats, clay brick making, unicorns (possibly two depicted in the Pictish stones we visited), and the declaration of Arbroath to name a few! 🌦️ insurgent meteorologies from earth station arbroath 📡 it’s a week since we were listening over-head and under-sea with the brilliant cohort of ~ insurgent meteorologies ~ gathered together for @archifringe summer assembly listening + being in the more than meteorological weather together along the angus coast led by @sophdyer_ + @alisonjessicascott thinking about tuning to satellite forecasting signals ~ archived weather fronts ~ receiving frequencies + connectivities in the face of climate crisis it was such a pleasure to be invited to join to do some attentive listening together in + around the grounds of @hospitalfield + amongst the waves + waters of the North Sea 🌊 we continued in the orbit of the week-long trajectory considering recording as observation attending to collective tempos + collaborative movements whether / weather beyond data ~ settling into the sensorial of shared vibrations 🪐 thank you to everyone at @archifringe for coordinating such a great thing! especially HUGE thanks to soph + to alison for welcoming ddrc + to all the participants for being so open to listening in new ways // diving in! be an antenna! 🛰️ @eva4pres @mdcern @salomemassart @ali.hutchinson @india80085 @a_weather_z 💛 ~ from our listening workshop, the sounds recorded together + through additional listening with the kit + sonic invitations made, the group created, compiled + edited their own weather cast, featuring field recordings, hydrophone audio, walkie talkie wonders + more! ~ lines of sight ~ was broadcast digitally on july 17th by dundee radio club + @wavefarmradio , with a special FM broadcast on @wgxc_90.7fm 📻 wave farm have since archived the show, where you can now listen back 🔊 wavefarm.org/wf/archive/asmbzv

Last week we had the pleasure of joining @archifringe in Arbroath at Hospitalfields for their ‘Architectures of Land and Learning’ event. It was a fantastic evening of inspiring talks from Dr Mairi McFadyen, Sara Almodovar Pereira, Hannah Lu & Garance Maurer, exploring architecture, collective action, & ecology. All brilliant speakers from a range of backgrounds. In addition to the great talks we had time to roam around the lovely gardens and even catch a peak at some of the work Archifringe’s Summer Assembly have been creating - can you tell we loved the thatch!! 😋 As an organisation, we’ve been particularly proud to sponsor this year’s Summer School and cant wait to see what future years bring. @mairi.mcfadyen @floatinguniversity
