🚨 SAVE THE DATE - 17 OCTOBER, 6pm-late 🚨 For the 2026 edition of the @antiuniversitynow festival, we invite our fellow London-based grassroots collectives and practitioners for an informal gathering, where we will share what we do on a public forum, find synergies and get to know one another outside of running our own events and projects!

Come for 6pm to hear intros from 7 diverse groups, each doing the very needed cultural work in London NOW despite limited resources. Stay as long as you like for the Antiuniversity closing party! 🪩👯

We will hear from:
@finch.communitycinema
@otherness_archive
@areyouseeingthispresents
@jonga___________sani
@solarpunkldn
@films4freedom
@kontekst.collective

The event will also feature the launch of the KONTEKST network - a we that were setting up to connect all of the grassroots groups and practitioners that we’ve built relationships with to over the past 3+ years of doing cultural work.

📆 Saturday 17 October 2026
📍The Jago, Dalston/Haggerston, E8 4AA
⏰ start at 6pm, after party from 9pm (or so)
🦽 Unfortunately, at this time the room is not step-free as it’s on the first floor with no lift. We will do our best to find a step free venue for our future events. The antiuniversity afterparty will take place on the ground floor and is step-free.
🎟️ Free entry, no prior booking required. We will most likely hit capacity so arrive early to avoid disappointment.
🚫 Guests breaking the ground rules will be made to leave and not attend future KONTEKST events.

[EDIT: Unfortunately, our friends from @transvideobuffet and @archivesdie won’t be able to make it this time but stay tuned for future events!]

Science as Fiction. Curated by @goke.studio

Science is not only a tool of discovery, but also a way of seeing. One that often overlaps with the artistic imagination. This strand explores how filmmakers have engaged with scientific methods, laboratories, and philosophies, transforming them into poetic visions. These films blur fact and fiction, observation and art, revealing cinema itself as an experimental science.

Selection of Films by Jean Painlevé – surreal marine life shorts where biology meets avant-garde cinema

La Jetée by Chris Marker, 1962 – a photographic science-fiction meditation on time, memory, and scientific experimentation

Powers of Ten by Charles and Ray Eames, 1977 – design, mathematics, and cosmic scale compressed into cinematic form.

Tickets in Bio. Also found on @kontekst.collective

Doors open from 7:00pm on 19/12/2025
Location: @finch.communitycinema

Ticket funds are donated to a charitable cause through Humanitix.

The Outsider’s Perspective @ Finch Community Cinema on 21st November 7pm.

A series of shorts.

From the foreigner’s viewpoint, cinema reframes the “elsewhere”: sometimes with curiosity, sometimes with distance, often revealing more about the filmmaker’s position than the subject. This strand probes the ethics of looking, asking what can be learned - and what remains obscured - when cultures are mediated by outsiders.

Given the Unite the Kingdom rallies, I thought this would be a good time to resurface this clip.

Dr Adam Elliott-Cooper connecting immigration to housing. A clip from Hostile Housing, 2020, which screened this year at the @icalondon for @londonshortfilmfest

Working with the @LondonRentersUnion to film this when I was still new in the game.

I wrote a caption then thought I’d rather hear yours in the comments. Follow @blackdaffodilphotography

The caption I deleted:

Don’t allow your discomfort with their mental health have you both dissociating from how suffocated you both feel in your relationship and ultimately within yourselves.

Ignoring concerning changes within ourselves and others does not make the effect of those changes disappear, it cultivates the perfect atmosphere for it to fester, mutate and grow potentially into something more permanent.

Be honest with yourself, so you can be open with others.

I have given care during and post crisis. I have been in receipt of care during and post crisis. Both sides have their own challenges, whether you are in need of support or see signs that someone may need support with the effects of their mental health. Being honest about your capacity and supporting from a place of transparency and reciprocity does more to strengthen and communicate respect and build security for you both.

First time achieving these double exposure images IN CAMERA whilst SHOOTING FOR THE FIRST TIME on medium format film 🤯🤯🤯😱🤯🤯🤯.

All because I enjoy having conversations with people and hearing or catching a glimpse of the hidden treasures in their humanity.
