After 3 weeks straight of gloomy, rainy weather, the sunshine returned this morning! Last night’s typhoon moved out around 11pm which always results in sunshine and a spike in temperatures the following day. I arrived at the court around 6:30am and just simply shot around for three and a half hours. Just shooting and stretching…and all that sunshine! It was peaceful, rejuvenating and relaxing. This wasn’t just hoops. After 3 weeks of dark weather, today was 3 and a half hours of bliss. #thankyoubasketball

A few hours ago, I just wrapped up an eight game hoop session in the SPO Player 1.5 MID “Icarus” and here is the breakdown on my experience. Now, I’ve played 4 sessions in the low cut Brooklyn pair and the mid from the ankle down plays exactly the same. Responsiveness, stability, traction, cushioning, lockdown, ride height, court feel etc. are all the same. Which equals ON COURT BEAST. Built for fast and explosive type players.

So, the mid cut aspect. I am an extremely skinny dinosaur that actually prefers mid cuts over lows. Ya, I know, go ahead and laugh. I grew up hooping in the 90s and I just prefer the feeling of the mids. So, when I caught wind that the Player 1.5 was going to release as a mid I was STOKED. The collar height did not hinder my noodle legs at all tonight in regards to maneuverability. Heel was lockdown 100% thx to the substantial heel pocket pillows. No irritation around where the collar meets my legs. No pressure points and the entire shoe had little to no break in time.

The last thing I want to say is the single aspect that I’m disappointed in. Please have a look at the last picture. Once I tied up the shoes as I would any mid cut, it is very clear that the tongue is TOO SHORT! There is no lace pressure BUT there’s literally only 2mm of tongue clearance before the laces are on your socks. The tongue is comfortable and VERY breathable but it is too short! Strictly based on tonight’s experience, it needs to be 1 cm taller.

In conclusion, the Player 1.5 Mid plays the same as the low, just a little bit more piece of mind for these skinny noodle legs👍🏾 and without any hint of restriction.

SPO Player 1.5 Mid “Icarus” 🪽in hand and they are CLEAN! The Greek mythology theme along with the subtle color palette is under the radar DOPE. Love the blue and orange hits on the outsoles and aglets. I’ll hoop in them tomorrow night and possibly Saturday night as well. Of course I’ll relay the experience in an upcoming post. I am one of those weirdos that actually prefers mids over lows so I’m extra stoked to hoop in these. There are a couple additions that I’m curious to see how they perform on the hardwood, I’ll make sure to share the experience as concisely as possible. Hope you guys enjoy the gallery📸. I know the color theme surrounds the “Into The Spiderverse” but when I hear “Brooklyn” there’s only one legend I think of. Nas. The Message. N.Y. State of Mind. It Ain’t Hard To Tell. The Don. Made You Look. Adam and Eve. REAL QUALITY. Wish these kids out here had an inkling of what true lyrical skill is. #realhiphop

Why did I get this shoe? To my eyes, they are absolutely beautiful and knowing New Balance’s standard of quality/materials, it will be a worthy pick up. It features GORE-TEX so it was a no brainer with autumn and winter coming up. Also, my daughter has the non GORE-TEX version so I wanted to be matchy matchy.

Now, let me transform into grumpy ol’man for the remainder of this post. This shoe is from 2010. I understand completely that it’s a retro. Cushioning technologies evolve naturally. Foams evolve, absorption and dispersion etc. etc. Most of us and our feet have been completely spoiled by modern day cushioning systems. I’ve walked exactly 8.5 km in this shoe so far over the span of three days (I actually kept track on my fitness tracker). I can say for a FACT, it’s no better than my AJ III or V retros. Fine. It is what it is. That’s not the issue.

My problem is the bs on the website. The marketing jargon. Talking about this and that and the other. Here’s a copy and paste from the website: The ABZORB midsole is a cushioning material that not only absorbs shock but also has rebound elasticity. ABZORB SBS heel cushioning provides added stability and comfort. N-ergy technology provides superior shock absorption

Obviously ALL brands do it. I remember the Halo Kobe 9 protro and its “extra line” on the outsole for upgraded traction. Don’t get it twisted, this 2002R is wearable for regular daily life. Just don’t expect the fantasy described on the website. Ok, I’m done. Peace.

It’s Friday morning. Stoked to hoop this weekend. Even if it’s just shooting around by myself. It all equates to BLISS for me. Peace. Calm. BASKETBALL HAPPINESS is different💯. Last 📸 gallery for the 247 NXT Aurora by EQLZ. Some on feets and semi-macro shots. Yesterday morning I gave them a 2.5 hour rock solid run. Shooting practice/drills, several 1 on 1 battles, 4 or 5 3 on 3 games and a ton of stretching.

So. This particular color way has internal materials reversed. The heel cup and lining are made up of a very soft cloth like material. Super comfy. The tongue for some reason uses the cats’ tongue material. In my very humble opinion I feel this was a mistake when it comes to BASKETBALL PERFORMANCE. Did I experience heel slippage? Yes. A TINY amount on the right foot only. This does not happen with none of the other color ways. Now keep in mind, I guarantee you my noodle legs, ankles and heels are far skinnier than yours. I would imagine your average hooper will have no such issues. Anyway, beautiful color way and an upper tier on court performer for me. Peace🤙🏾.

Anticipation. I’m so looking forward to hooping in these but I’ve had ZERO time to even try them on yet! Not even in the house.
