Not sure you’ve heard of this place Italy but it’s pretty nice!
— eight nights spent in beautiful house swaps on the Lido (I cried when I saw the view) and in Liguria; four in otherworldly @umberto_121 staring at the frescos. Roughly one billion credit card points transferred (just kidding, Air France has a discount for kids!)
— favorite meals, shown: @da_rita_e_eraldo in Lucignano d’Asso (simple, delicious, casually insane views) and @giardinvenezia, not only the best food we had in Venice (razor clams!! Fresh bean pasta!) but the warmest and most kid friendly environment (a play kitchen?!).
— shoutout to a dozen or so of my favorite people ages 3-81 for rotating in at different times for the wild ride, you reduced the kid whining by 85 percent or so.
— gratitude to my spouse @ari.richter who didn’t have a credit card and hated to travel when we met… for meeting me in the middle-ish. And to Italy for the always warm welcomes.

I'm so honored to have been one of the finalists of the President Portrait Competition for former LAGCC president Dr. Gail Mellow. What I thought was going to be a stressful three weeks of meeting a deadline and pressure from the nature of a competition turned out to be much the opposite.

This experience was meeting two talented artists - Abby @pugnacious.world and Ivan @ivansart so willing to collaborate and share from our individual wealth of knowledge to make the most out of this experience. We got to meet Dr. Gail Mellow who is an incredibly grounded person with such an awareness of the role an academic institution has in fostering community and offering enrichment in parts of life that can't be met solely through courses - hence the quality of life the pursuit in the humanities can offer. It was awesome learning about her past in outreach towards vulnerable communities and the amount of work and spirit she has put into the community that only exists at LAGCC. Congrats Ivan on your win, this is so well deserved!!

And of course, the biggest shout out to @dahliaelsayed and @ari.richter for jurying this competition - and @jessicaboehman! The role of an educator can mean deafetdness from becoming the middle man and making compromises to appease administrative standards. But! From me and the Arts community at LAGCC- your dedication to your students, curating opportunities for us that help us gain perspective and new experiences and persistence in upholding a safe learning environment is something to be honored as well. Thank you!

And thank you to friends who came through to support 🥹🧡 love y'all vm 🧡🧡

Four days after Roe was overturned, I went to get an ultrasound for my wanted pregnancy, saw something transcendent, then found myself talked over for another unsolicited reminder that even here in NYC, some see us as vessels and not people who deserve to define our lives and bodies on our terms. Others…don’t! Unbearable isn’t a memoir (well, mostly), but this first excerpt up at @nymag @thecut opens with the moment I was reminded why I needed to write this book. (Link in bio and please preorder the book!)
