Redirection of life…

Aria Ixchel (b. 1999, Guanajuato, Mexico; based in Florence) is a multidisciplinary artist working across photography, poetry, sound, and immersive installation. Her work explores the intersections between collective experience, contemporary imaginary and authenticity through visual and sensory narratives. Rooted in sensitivity to inner and outer landscapes, her practice is driven by an ongoing search for the most authentic self. 🚨 NYC CALLING 🗽 @ariaixchel is a candidate to exhibit in Times Square during Frieze (May 13–15) on one of the largest and most iconic billboards in the city. ❤️ The more likes it gets, the higher the chances that their work will take over New York. CLICK This work came out of a year defined by impact and residue. I remember it less as narrative than as texture - rubber, heat, and afterimage. It comes from experiences that did not pass cleanly, but stayed in the body, in memory, in the nervous system. The forms in this work are based on 3D scans of my own body. I used my body as the starting point, not to create a portrait, but to produce evidence. The scanned body is translated into data, then stretched, fractured, and re-sculpted in digital clay into forms that still carry my presence, but no longer belong entirely to me. The distortions come in part from the policing of my sexuality and masculinity. They come from being read, judged, and assigned before I could arrive at my own sense of self. Over time, that gaze becomes internal. Intimacy becomes charged with fear, shame, and self-surveillance. Desire turns uncertain. What begins as self becomes image. Salvation becomes an interface. Forgiveness becomes a button. Purity becomes a promise offered by the same mechanisms that distort us. I would like to thank @caravanapresents and @artverseparis for exhibiting this work in February. Special thanks to @sashapaperny for creating an immersive sound design for the installation and @egor.wav for collaborating in creation of sound design for one of the pieces. And of course grateful to stunningly talented @ariaixchel and @peanug420 for the incredible photos. #sculpture #3dartist #zbrush #cinema4d

- The Source - by @ariaixchel “I took this photograph in Estonia in 2021, not knowing then how many times I would return to it, or how often it would call me back. Over time, it became more than an image. It began to speak. - The Source - is one the poems that emerged from this dialogue, written and spoken in my voice, it feels like something remembered more than created. A message that arrived as if from another dimension. It’s a personal return, and an invitation for you to remember your own. A trace, echoing through image, voice, and space.” Thanks to @maxygallery who allowed me to discover her
