The Internet Archive was built to preserve the internet. Now, AI might be changing what that means. Media companies are asking the Internet Archive to stop archiving their journalism after AI companies began using archived content to scrape information at scale. A tool created to preserve knowledge is now caught in the middle of the fight over AI, access, and ownership. Who should control the content AI learns from? #AI #InternetArchive #Journalism #DigitalRights #wethemmedia

AI companies used to take your content. Now, creators can decide what it’s worth. The agentic era is changing how authors control and monetize their intellectual property. Instead of allowing AI systems to access their work freely, authors can set rules around who can use their content and even require AI companies to pay when that content is used for training. A major shift from the days of scraping the open web. The future of content is about ownership, control, and getting paid. #AI #IntellectualProperty #Web3 #DigitalOwnership #wethemmedia

What if creators could get paid directly by the people who value their work? Crypto makes that possible by creating payment rails that allow creators and audiences to transact directly, without relying on traditional intermediaries. It’s similar to what DeFi does to banking. Instead of putting a central institution in the middle, decentralized systems enable peer-to-peer transactions. Now imagine applying that idea to journalism. Instead of every transaction going through a publication, readers could pay journalists directly for the work they create. Less friction. More direct ownership. More control for creators. #Journalism #Crypto #CreatorEconomy #Web3 #WeThemMedia

The media industry isn’t just losing money. It’s losing its history. Over the past two decades, broken business models have pushed countless publications out of business, taking years of journalism with them. And in the Web2 ecosystem, when the cost of maintaining old databases becomes too high, that content can be transferred, neglected, or simply deleted. So what happens to the work? The proposed solution is to put more control in the hands of the authors themselves, allowing them to maintain their own archives and create new ways to generate value from their content. Because journalism shouldn’t disappear just because a business model failed. #Journalism #Media #Web3 #DigitalArchives #WeThemMedia

Traditional paywalls can turn readers away the moment they’re asked to commit to a recurring subscription, even when they only want access to a single story. This system offers another approach: micropayments that let readers pay for individual articles instead of subscribing to an entire publication. It also creates a new revenue stream for journalists, giving them more control over their work and digital assets. A different way to think about access, ownership, and sustainability in journalism. #Journalism #Micropayments #FutureOfMedia #Web3 #WeThemMedia

After 20 years in journalism, Arikia @arikiadotcom brings a perspective that goes beyond reporting. With a background in engineering and journalism, she has developed both a builder mentality and a journalistic mentality. That unique position offers a deeper understanding of how the industry works, from writers and editors to the systems that shape what gets published and how information reaches the public. Sometimes, solving an industry’s biggest problems requires understanding both the story and the system behind it. #Media #FutureOfMedia #Innovation #DecentralizedJournalism #WeThemMedia

We could be living through a dark age of history without realizing it. In 50 years, future generations may look back at our time and struggle to understand how events really unfolded. It’s not just about preserving the headlines. It’s about preserving the context, the perspectives, the conversations, and how people experienced reality as it happened. If we stop documenting the present, we risk leaving future generations with fragments of history but no real understanding of the moment. And if that continues, we could be heading toward a new dark age. What we document today becomes the history someone else learns tomorrow. #Documentation #FutureOfMedia #DecentralizedJournalism #WeThemMedia #DigitalHistory

🌍🧱 How Decentralization Prevents Digital Disasters | Arikia Millikan @ TEDxBerlin What happens when years of vital work disappear with a single corporate decision? After leading a collaborative effort to document Haiti’s post-earthquake recovery, journalist Arikia Millikan witnessed firsthand how fragile centralized digital systems can be — watching critical stories vanish overnight. That moment launched a mission to rethink how we store and protect digital knowledge. In this gripping TEDxBerlin talk, she introduces her vision for “internet rebar”: a blockchain-based publishing infrastructure designed to preserve journalism against political pressure, platform failure, and digital decay. A powerful call to decentralize before more history is lost. 👉 Watch the full talk here: https://youtu.be/2y_xWLJg7Jo?si=bM1RIYcujZQTvwP2 #TEDxBerlin #ArikiaMillikan #DigitalPreservation #Decentralization #BlockchainForGood #FutureOfMedia #Journalism #InternetRebar #ResilientTech #InformationJustice
