Continuation of my previous post 😍. Race Day – A Birthday to Remember! This was not just race day; it was my birthday! What better way to celebrate than running a marathon? A perfect birthday treat to remind myself that at 53, I’m fit, strong, and going even stronger! After landing, we went straight to the expo to collect our bibs. I met some Insta celebrities—@thrivewithmegha and Sunil Shetty sir—took pictures, and headed back to rest. A simple early dinner, a hot water massage with Epsom salt, and I was off to sleep. Woke up at 2:30 AM, got ready by 3:20 AM, had my oatmeal, and booked an auto. Delhi’s chillness was biting cold—shivering, teeth chattering! Reached the start point, handed over my baggage, did a warm-up, and waited. Gunshot fired, but we could start only at 4:19. Mukesh, Jaggs, and I navigated through the crowd mindfully. Around 25K, I had to slow down to fix my bib, and that’s when the mental battle began. “Mahalakshmi, are you mad? You still have 18K left. Just stop!” My pace dropped to 7:20 for two KMs. At 30K, another mental battle—so I did a 200m sprint + 800m walk (resulting in a 9:31 pace). That’s when I scolded my own mind: “Enough! Stop guiding me!” From there, I picked up my original pace and covered the final 12.2K without distractions. The Result? 4:20! Mukesh, despite cramps, bounced back strong and finished in 4:22. Initially, I felt sad that my sub-4 dream didn’t happen, but when I compared it to my 2024 TMM FM (4:26)—I realized this was a victory! A special mention: Swimming helped my injury recovery tremendously. Thanks to Arathi Swaminathan for encouraging me to incorporate it into my training. Gratitude & Acknowledgments A heartfelt thanks to: • My family—My Dadda, MIL, FIL, and my brother • My coach, mentors and my role model @harican2019 sentiment and emotional also meeting him in airport and meeting him in just finish line getting his blessings omg, and friends • The universe for all the support At 53, I’m fit, strong, and unstoppable! The journey continues… and so do my marathons! Onwards and upwards!
