When autumn arrives, the kitchen becomes the natural gathering place for our home—and my Le Creuset comes off the shelf to stay on the stovetop for the season. 🍂
This slow-braised Sunday Pot Roast is the exact recipe featured in this month’s Minneapolis Lakes magazine. It’s rich, comforting, and packed with garden-fresh root vegetables, red wine, and herbs. Pop it in the oven after lunch, let the house fill with the scent of rosemary and beef all afternoon, and serve it with crusty sourdough by dinnertime.
Plus, for our Substack subscribers, we’ve put together a printable PDF featuring 5 Fall Dutch Oven Recipes (including this pot roast, Steve’s Winter Stew, Cider-Braised Pork, and more).

🍁There’s a kind of beauty that can’t be bought — it’s grown, gathered, and set with your own hands.

On our 16 acres in Grant, Minnesota, we’re building something we hope feels like coming home to a place you’ve never been. Hugelkultur beds tucked into the garden. Heritage chickens living the way chickens are meant to live. A table set with what the earth actually gave us today — not what a store sold us.

We believe a home should be authentic, sustainable, and a little imperfect — the kind of European countryside charm that feels lived-in, and comfortable like a warm hug. A place built for slow mornings, full tables, and the people you love gathered around them.

This is farm-to-table, this is clean food, this is a life built on purpose — inside the home and out in the garden, all working toward the same quiet goal: a beautiful life, well lived.

Pull up a chair. 🌿🍂

Creating spaces that truly reflect how we live isn’t about chasing perfection—it’s about intentionality. Taking raw, natural materials and layering them with care builds a place that supports how you gather, share, and unwind.
If you look around your home and feel like it no longer serves your daily life, you don’t need a total overhaul overnight. It starts with clarity.
In our latest post for Fresh Roots Living, we share:
The story behind building our home sanctuary
How to design for daily life rather than trends
The Pre-Renovation Framework to guide your next project
Paid subscribers also get exclusive access to our full home source list—including our exact stone, cabinetry, paint, and finishes—plus a printable one-page renovation checklist.

September has a way of rearranging the whole property — the flowers are having their final moment, the beets are ready for roasting, and the light through the porch turns the color of good butter. There is a rhythm to this time of year: gather what the garden gives you, put it to good use, and let the season set the pace. A well-tended home is never finished — only ever being cared for.

Late summer light just hits different. ✨
As the high, white sun of June softens into that warm, honey-toned golden hour, autumn is quietly waiting in the wings. But transitioning your home for early fall doesn’t mean rushing out for plastic pumpkins or store-bought clutter—it’s about slowing down and tuning into the natural rhythm of your space.
In the latest Fresh Roots Living newsletter, Cari Ann shares a simple, slow approach to a golden-hour home reset using natural texture, warm light, and what’s already growing right outside your door.
Swipe through for the late August checklist, and head to the link in our bio to read the full article and subscribe! 🌾🍂
In the full piece: • How to capture and lean into late-afternoon light • Bringing the garden in beyond flowers (think branches, seed pods, and woody herbs) • Gentle textile and scent swaps to ground your space • The simple 10-minute “Sunset Reset” ritual
How does your home start to feel different as we hit late August? Tell us your favorite small way to shift your space for fall in the comments below! 👇

🌅People ask me all the time how I do both, run a real estate team and live this slower, rooted life out here.

Here’s the truth: they’re not two separate things. They’re the same thing. Steve and I together make all of it work. It absolutely is a partnership rooted in the belief of a lifestyle led with love for our family and friends, and passion for wellness and health.

What brings me peace is the way the leaves move right before a storm rolls in. It’s the garden smelling like high summer in July. It’s the kitchen filling up with whatever Steve’s got simmering and I have baking. It’s sorting eggs into cartons to gift to friends and clients, because a full carton says something a “just checking in” text never could.

I help people find their next home because I believe deeply in the idea of home, the feeling, not just the four walls. And this place, this land, these eggs, this life Steve and I have built here together, it’s my proof that it’s possible to build something that actually feels like peace.❤️

So I’ll ask you what I ask myself: what brings you peace? I’d love to know. 🥚🌿

What’s one small thing at home that makes you happy?
Maybe it’s flowers you grew yourself. A pot of soup on a slow afternoon. A table set for friends on their way over. A room that finally feels like yours.
These are the small joys I keep coming back to. The days feel fuller when you make a little room for them.
So here’s my invitation. Every week I share the small, real ways we’re doing this at our own place — seasonal rhythms, what’s growing, what’s on the table, what’s working and what isn’t. It’s not a magazine spread. It’s a running conversation about enjoying the life you’ve built.
If this feels like the kind of life you want, I’d love for you to subscribe and stay a while. The new issue is live. Tap the link in my bio. 🌿
