BOOKISH 2 POST 💄✂️✨️

My second ever hair & make-up job in Belgium was this special coproduction between @happyduckfilms and @eagleeyedrama series called Bookish! Second szn officially streaming on @uandalibi 💥

Written & produced by @themarkgatiss who also plays Mr Gabriel Book in the series, the story follows a bookeeper who has a knack for solving mysteries in 1940s London.

Thank you to the designer @esther_de_goey for inviting me to the world of Bookish, hot sticks and foggy alleyways. It was one of my top jobs of all times, I got to do so much and I learned so much.
Got to see places all over Belgium and even Germany, learned a bit of dutch and made new friends along the way 🩷

Beautiful BTS pictures by @thomas_vercauteren1 & @gaetandefocuspuller 📸

Directed by @carolinagiammetta
Shot by @anton.mertens & @maximiliaan

“When I went to film school to learn how to make movies, it was interrupted by the pandemic. With the school closed, we couldn’t get our hands on 16mm or 35mm motion picture cameras, so I decided to buy my first still camera to learn how to expose film correctly.

“My photos started getting attention from my friends and they began calling me the film guy. It’s magical to have such a slow process and see the results much later. Maybe it’s due to every picture having a price tag, but I truly think of each photo being intentional and more of moment rather than a disposable image from an iPhone.

“Film gets me out of my comfort zone and appreciate everything more. As I keep using my film camera, friends want me to help them get their own film cameras. We go into a camera shop to find their first film camera, each finding a camera that they feel connected to. Next thing I know, now I’m the camera guy.

“Walking the streets of New York and London, cameras are always a conversation starter and I get to learn a lot from other film photographers and their choices, sharing social medias seeing their work. I think my love for film photography has led me to have an eye in getting shots to look like a movie still where each photo needs to tell a story. That has given me the opportunity to work as a behind the scenes photographer for a feature film and a Netflix project where I wouldn’t have had the opportunity if I didn’t learn what I know now from my experience in film photography. My love for film photography has given me work and jobs I could only dream of!” @matty_mash
