Excited to officially announce my partnership with @qtbondi and @qthotels as their Artist in Residence!

I sat down with the QT team to chat about turning ‘pro’, how Bondi’s light and coastline shape my work, and transforming the hotel into a living gallery for my new exhibition, Both Sides Now.

Swipe through for a look inside my takeover and let me know which piece resonates with you most!

Samantha Mackie | “Who’s Accounting?”
13 cm x 11 cm x 8 cm

@samantha_mackie

Medium: Porcelain, Ceramic Ink, Glaze

Sam Mackie is a Sydney-based artist working from her studio on Garigal Country. Originally working with paper, she was drawn to the durability and permanence of ceramics and completed a Diploma of Ceramics in 2024. Working predominantly in porcelain, Samantha explores ideas of shelter, containment, memory and belonging through familiar forms like houses, structures and grids. Working with fine slabs of porcelain created from hundreds of brushstrokes, she distils these forms into delicate linear reductions, leaving the porcelain unglazed and quietly ghostly. Samantha has been selected for several prizes, including the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize and Ravenswood Art Prize

From newsrooms to the headlands. 🗞️➡️🗿

Huge thanks to @cityhubsydney for diving deep into my upcoming debut at @sculpturebythesea.

We talked through 20 years of storytelling in media, stepping into full-time practice, and why placing a 3-metre mirror-steel Janus sculpture on my daily Bondi walk feels so deeply personal.

With just 8 days until Both Sides Now lands on the cliffs off Marks Park, it’s starting to feel very real!

8 days to go… 💥

Swipe through for a behind-the-scenes look at my sculpture, Both Sides Now, taking shape in the workshop.

Standing at almost 3 metres high, this massive, faceted Janus head is in its final fabrication stretch before the protective laser film comes off to reveal the mirror-finish steel underneath.

In just over a week’s time, we’ll be craning this beast into position on the cliffs off Marks Park for @sculpturebythesea Bondi 2026.

To see a work I’ve lived with in my head—and my studio—finally land on my daily coastal walk is completely surreal.

Can’t wait to share the finished piece with you all on the headland!

See you on the coastal path 🌊✨

And just like that, the 2026 Wollombi Valley Sculpture Festival has come to a close—and what a fabulous Festival it has been!

For 16 wonderful days, Wollombi and Laguna were filled with creativity, conversation and extraordinary sculpture, with more than 180 works by over 140 talented artists.

A heartfelt thank you to our artists, judges, sponsors, donors, venue owners, volunteers and the remarkable Festival team who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. And, of course, thank you to everyone who visited, joined a tour or artist talk, purchased a sculpture, brought family and friends, or simply took the time to wander and enjoy the work.

It takes an enormous community effort to bring this Festival to life, and we are so grateful to everyone who played a part.

Until next time—thank you for making the 2026 Wollombi Valley Sculpture Festival one to remember. ❤️

“Founders Keepers”
Introducing my new series of hand made pop up books. The imaginery begins with my fascination of pop up books and Australian flora and fauna. The series is a tribute to Australian landscape, its colours, patterns and textures. Thrugh years of travelling through autbeck | collected stones, minerals and shels. My collection of little traasures inspired me to used it as a starting point for the images that appear throught the books. By bringing paper inginering and printmaking i create a new world that you can hold in your hands and it comes alive when the books open.

2026 23rd Annual National Acquisitive $30,000 Paddo Painting Prize Finalist

Chris Gentle

Haven, 2026

Oil on canvas
80 × 150 cm

For Sale
AUD $11,000

The South Coast of New South Wales provides many bays and inlets which provide shelter for sailors and shipping of many types. Over the years I have become familiar with several of them and have enjoyed drawing and sketching them. These often give rise to larger works, of which "Haven" is one. Rather than a portrait of a particular place, it is an amalgam of several venues.

Artist Bio

Born UK, lives and works in Sydney. Studied at West Sussex College of Art and London University. Taught at the National Art School and College of Fine Art, UNSW.
