The painted clay plaques turned out wonderful! Ms. Christopher started students off with this project when she was with us, and I was around for the painting portion of the project. Students start off with a 6”x8” drawing, and they don’t know what that drawing is for. Then, they are told that this drawing will become a 3 (or more) layered plaque made out of clay. They place two holes in it for hanging later, and we cold finish with acrylic paints. The goal…a 3D version of their drawing! One of my personal favorite projects that usually yields great results! @artbyellajo #tlhsart

Dear Ms. Christopher,
You’ve been a blessing to us for the last 16 weeks. You rocked your student teaching, and I couldn’t be happier that you chose our school to spend your last Ball State Semester as an Art Educator. You will be a life changer in your next chapter…a fan favorite, I’m sure. I’m so proud of your growth and confidence! Happy LAST DAY (as a student) AND CONGRATULATIONS on your graduation from BSU!!!!! Be sure to come back and visit us!!!!

Today’s Friday Finisher is a long awaited moment for our 7 seniors. Like maybe a 4 year wait for them to set up their own portion of the Art Show❤️ Each student has their own set up with their entire body of work from this year, 11 projects from each Advanced course they are enrolled in. They all wrote an Artist Statement, and labeled their own work. You can see most of their personalities come through in their overall set up too, as some add embellishments and little nods to various memories. What a joy it has been to see these ladies grow in their time here at TLHS. I’m anxiously awaiting the crowd on Sunday, gathered around to see the work these girls have put into these displays and reading through their statements. Along side of their displays are hundreds of pieces from our other students who are not seniors. With the help of Ms. Cristopher, this year was a dream to set up! Proving that teamwork makes the dream work. Don’t forget, we will have light refreshments and artwork from Immanuel, Sauers, and White Creek! Stop in between 1-3pm!!!! See you then!

WE (Ms. Christopher and I) finished our design for this year’s Art Camp t-shirt!!! I’m so in love! And the ART part is white in this picture because it will be what the kids fill in with their own art! So cute. The background is our t-shirt color. All volunteers and all campers will receive a t-shirt. Start thinking of your ideas for ART!!!!! #tlhsart

We invite you to join us at Trinity Lutheran High School for an afternoon full of beauty and talent! Starting at 1pm, enter our building through the doors near the greenhouse, to see our Annual Art Show in the commons. At 2pm the FFA Plant Sale begins in the Greenhouse (the best plants, you don’t want to miss out!). Then beginning at 3pm in our gym (still enter through doors by the greenhouse) it’s the Variety Show! Our students have all been working so hard to bring all of these events to life, they have all been given so many gifts to share. We are all so ready to see you on Sunday. @artbyellajo @tlhsdrama @tlhs_ffa1
Please don’t forget to enter the parking lot through the northern most entrance - see map provided.

It has been so much fun to have a front row seat while @artbyellajo takes the reins and handles the art department at TLHS. She has been truly getting to know our students and acclimated brilliantly to our culture at Trinity. Her standards are high, her expectations are in place, and she has been working to fine tune her teaching, grading, classroom management, and time management too. It’s a lot, and as we all know, it can get harder before it gets easier when classrooms belong to just one person, etc. Ms. Christopher, keep up the great work.
One of the unexpected things about having her with us, is me needing to find a place to go and something else to do. And to be fair, that hasn’t been hard…there has been plenty to reorganize and manage behind the scenes. Things that would never get done without the TIME to do so.
I’ve also been able to jump in and create art…examples, auction pieces, and even things “just for fun”. Ms. Christopher’s time is about half way through, which seems totally crazy. I love my students, so I will be happy to be back to teaching full time, but I sure will miss having Ms. Christopher with us when her time to branch out on her own begins! #tlhsart

Remember that one time @uplifteddesignsco was here and demonstrated her handmade signs for our Art Club? We finally finished the painting part. Thanks to @artbyellajo we were able to knock this out today! Start planning your grad party decor and pick this beauty up at our Annual Trinity Auction in late February!!! Don’t forget, anyone can bid, we will share out that website just as soon as we are ready to! Thank you so much @abby.burgener #tlhsart

Having a student teacher has been such a blessing…I have always wanted to have this experience, as I know I’m learning from Ms. Christopher too! What I didn’t anticipate is the small gift of time. With her taking classes over, we are able to grade quicker, and mat projects faster, and even REORGANIZE! Which would literally never happen without the available time. We are looking to really restructure a few things around the room to adjust for the art department’s growing classes. After classes on Friday I put up this file system in a little corner of the room. We no longer needed it at home, so I think I have the perfect solution for our Visual Communications course. You guys will have to help me name our yearbook corner 📖 And if you haven’t seen it yet, there is also a new use (thanks to magnetic hooks) for our display in the room. Check out the paper beaded necklaces our Jewelry group has finished up! Meanwhile, Ms. Christopher is still killing it in the art room! Give us a few weeks and we will have more organization show and tell! #tlhsart @artbyellajo

Well, well, well. What do we have here on this 2D Tuesday? It’s one of the pieces made by @artbyellajo for our walls here at TLHS. Ella was one of our 2D Art Award winners from the class of 2022! The job of the winner is to create or donate a work of art to our department so it can hang as their “trophy” of sorts. Ella is now at Ball State and is in the Art Education program. How fitting!!! I’ve been “not so patiently” waiting for these projects to come in as it is time to move to a new wall…and our poor class of 2021 winners have been waiting for friends so it wouldn’t look so odd! I can’t wait for the expansion of the award winner area at the school’s north end! #tlhsart
