halloween may be over, but i always enjoy the insane and fun mental process of choosing a costume every year. i always want my costume choice to pay homage to someone specific, and for there to be a personal meaning behind my choice. since i was kid, blade was always a huge badass hero i’ve adored. wesley snipe’s portrayal and overall aesthetic set the tone for a portion of my obsession with gothic themes in the early 2000’s to now! representation really does matter, and to see someone that looked just like me visually reiterate things my young mind could only imagine! i really wanted to perfect the costume from the shoot concept, the outfit, the theme, and the simplicity of using black and red (two of my favorite colors) to really help me visually bring my portrayal of blade to life! sorry for the rant, y’all know i love the creative process behind everything 😂 anyways, here’s to another successful spooky szn, and more dope things to soon come 😇🫶🏾

(april 2018) the final product. nobody will every truly understand how much this day means to me. i decided for my last college art show to try something new & somewhat let people see the real me. if you look closely every picture used in the background is in chronological order from my birth to the present. each photo displayed is a special moment/memory that occurred in my life. each photo serves a purpose and has a significant meaning to not only who i am, but overall my entire life. the highs & the lows that play a part in who i am. on top of the collage of pictures are 7 head silhouettes from 7 important moments that have occurred in my life. those moments are significant to the piece itself because they were moments when i started figuring out moment by moment who i truly am & the purpose i want to serve in life. this was a big deal for me to step out of my shell and take an approach of letting the world somewhat see not only my world but my perspectives of life. if i could go back in time and relive this day i’d happily do so forever. through all the mental hurdles i’ve had to overcome in my life, this is me at the finish line. this is what genuine happiness looks like. still can’t put into words how amazing i felt this day. this is an eternal mood 😌 big s/o to everyone that came out to support, that offered so many beautiful reactions/words of encouragement, & to those who took time to uplift me in this moment. forever thankful 🖤

everyone already knew this day was coming 😂 (may 4, 2019) i walked across the stage & received my degrees, completing my undergrad experience. when people ask me how i managed to make it through college my answer will always be, “tommy oliver” aka the greatest power ranger on the planet, also the only power ranger to be featured in 231 episodes & 3 movies, and lastly my favorite power ranger since i was 2 years old!!! thanks @jdfffn for playing & portraying an amazing character that gave me the strength to make it through undergrad! now fingers crossed tommy gives me the power & strength to get my masters degree soon! 😩😂 👨🏾‍🎓😁 @powerrangers @powerrangersnow made by yours truly 😌

black history month isn’t over yet and i’d like to take some time to cherish & remember the many black lives lost due to police brutality, homophobia, transphobia, racial profiling, walking home minding your business with a pack of skittles & can of arizona tea in your hands, comfortably resting in your home at night while a bunch of officers raid your home looking for a criminal with a general description, being choked to death by an officer while their colleagues watch even though you’ve already been detained, being shot numerous times after complying with officers when no crime was committed, simply being comfortable in your own skin & personal life, and most of all just for being black. racism/discrimination, & general non acceptance of black people is something major that is still believed in and practiced to this day. sad thing about the names on those lists are, they are only the names of incidents & injustices that have barely been accounted for, but those aren’t all of the many lives that have been taken. all of these individuals’ lives were taken due to the corrupt world & society we live in that has failed to protect us. they deserved to live their lives freely & be happy just as everyone should be able to. now more than ever we have to come together as one and protect one another. we have to love and support one another no matter. we live in corrupt system that doesn’t want us to succeed unless we follow unfair rules that are made primarily to see us fail. again i must emphasize that we all cherish, say, & remember the many names listed. say those names until you can’t forget them. uplift & project one another as much as you can and then some. because if we don’t, who will?
