“What if every word is written for you? You’re the only MUZE.” -Aishwarya Nair

At MUZE, we love beauty of self. Let’s look in the mirror and instead of finding flaws find the beauty that’s bestowed on us by our ancestors and the love of people around us. Because only you can be your muze forever.

🟩 Twisting the plot on public space 🟩

From August 8–10, Design Week Calgary 2025 hosted PLOT TWIST—a three-day Design-Build Challenge where designers, artists, students, and citizens came together to reimagine downtown Calgary through tactical urbanism. Presented by the Downtown Core Neighbourhood Association (@downtowncoreca) and ActivateYYC (@activateyyc), the event turned Bowfort Park into a canvas for bold, temporary interventions that surprise, delight, and inspire.

Participants were randomly assigned to teams and collaborated to prototype innovative changes in public space, sparking community, creativity, and playful experimentation. From small-scale structures to imaginative experiences, PLOT TWIST showcased how collective creativity can transform urban environments and bring new possibilities to city life.

Thank you to the Downtown Core Neighbourhood Association and ActivateYYC for presenting this hands-on exploration of design, and to all participants who contributed to a weekend of inspiration and civic engagement.

What would you add to a public space in Calgary if you had the chance? Share your ideas in the comments!

🟩 How can design create pathways to housing for Indigenous youth? 🟩

On August 8, Design Week Calgary 2025 hosted Pathways for Indigenous Youth Housing—a collaborative design charrette presented by Lemay (@lemayonline) and the Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth (@usaycalgary).

Held at USAY’s new Youth Centre in Forest Lawn, the session brought together Indigenous youth, design professionals, community stakeholders, decision-makers, and potential funders. Guided by Grace Coulter-Sherlock of Lemay and LeeAnne Ireland of USAY, participants shared knowledge through dialogue and collaborative design activities, generating creative approaches to Indigenous youth housing.

The gathering highlighted how lived experience, cultural knowledge, and design expertise can come together to shape more holistic, responsive housing solutions in Calgary.

Thank you to Grace Coulter-Sherlock and LeeAnne Ireland for leading this conversation, to @lemayonline and @usaycalgary for presenting, and to everyone who contributed their voice to exploring what Indigenous youth housing can look like.

Follow @designweekcalgary for more highlights and recaps from across Design Week Calgary 2025.
