This past summer, I had the privilege of joining Art Craft’s 2025 Cohort and participated in a six-week production design intensive.

Now, Art Craft is hosting a Fall Fundraiser to expand and become a year-round organization hosting free educational panels, workshops, and networking events to have a wider impact on the broader public.

For six weeks, I had the privilege of being part of ArtCraft, a program created for everyone in the art department. And let me tell you—it was complete, rigorous, generous, and nothing short of amazing.
It feels almost impossible to put into words what I learned here. This program isn’t just about skill building—it’s about reimagining what access to education in our field can look like. It’s about refusing to let training in production design, props, set dressing, and all the nuances of art direction become something reserved only for those who can afford expensive programs.
ArtCraft is a dream made real by the brilliant production designer Cheyenne Ford, who saw the gaps in our industry and dared to answer them. She built this program not only to fill her own sense of void, but to ensure that others wouldn’t have to face the same barriers. It is truly a utopia: a vision of what our industry should look like—accessible, community-driven, and built on excellence.
What @cheyenne_design and her team have created here is a standard of extreme quality and extreme vision. Whoever can donate to support this program should, because it is more than education—it’s transformation.

For 6 weeks, trainees have conceptualized designs with research, drafting, scouting, and sourcing in New York City.

When you’re up against it for a presentation and you don’t have time to commit to a full on render of a scene rather than just printing out a standard jpeg export do this to add a bit of oomph to your drawing and create a subtle clay render effect.
• Turn on ambient occlusion - this alone has the power to transform your output drawing
• Turn on shadows and play with the time and date sliders to get the best dramatic light play
• experiment with shadows light and dark sliders for additional contrast
• Finally add a light fog way back in the scene to give the effect of depth of field.
Do all of these and turn your output images into something a little more punchy and get people asking “did you do that in SketchUp?”
