Some more swag and goodies from the @naea_arteducators #naea26

Also, if you don't own a piece of @dewestudio custom stamped jewelry, you should!

I found the little thumb stamped green face drawing at the Art Institute gift shop counter when I was checking out.

Had an incredible time at @naea_arteducators #naea26

Loved the keynote speech by @bisabutler and really loved getting to celebrate @auartlady on her well deserved award - Mac Arthur Goodwin Award for Distinguished Service within the Profession. And also big congrats to @artctrish for her first place for AAEA Newsletter and @sketchyartteacher for first place for AAEA Website!!! A big day for @alabama_art_educators

Loved seeing our YAM flag and VACA winners. Humble brag... one of my students placed 2nd and had her "Beeutiful" bobblehead featured!

One of my favorite parts about going to national convention is collecting my people. I loved seeing and talking with so many of you.

Wasn’t it a sweet 16? Y’all can’t even begin to understand what this year meant to me. I thought I was done with education when COVID hit. I thought I was done with theatre. While it appeared that I got win after win this year, you don’t don’t know the hits and falls I took before this year. The questions and tears. This time last year I had mono for a month and a serious family illness. Could this year possibly hold what I wanted it to? I won a grant from ASCA, then found out I was nominated for AAEA educator of the year, I got to see my favorite artist in an exhibition in Pennsylvania, I won AAEA AEoY, I co chaired a state conference, I returned to the stage in not one but two shows, decided to enter my watercolors in exhibitions, taught my first adult watercolor class, I presented at National Conference and won NAEA Southeastern Educator of the Year and AMT Outstanding Teacher. When you think you are on an island, that no one sees your work, that you are not valued- hang in there. Do it for you and no one else. Because people will doubt you, they will make you doubt yourself. Believe in yourself because you deserve it. It was a sweet 16 after all!

Took my sister @jennyyoungbloodduh on a #sister #daytrip to see #steelmagnolias at the Jan Dempsey Art Center in Auburn to see one of my #artteacherbesties @artctrish star in it as M'Lynne

It was incredible! The acting was great, and I really enjoyed the minimal set. The beauty shop was where everything took place, so all the emphasis was strictly on the conversations between characters. Although a sad play, its based on a true story, and each actor really brought their character to life through witty remarks, humor, anger, frustration, tears, and heartache. Tricia's performance definitely caused the waterworks. I've loved this movie since I was a preteen. And it definitely hits closer to home now.

Sister and I enjoyed chatting and listening to Amy Poehler's "Yes Please" on the car ride. Well worth the drive.

Had a good time attending the annual @alabamaartsalliance #artssummit with @soccermom727

Thoroughly the #keynotespeaker @roylightner
His whole discussion on #staycurious was fabulous and enlightening, especially when he dove a bit into #brainscience
And I loved his message of "Safe places don't exist. It is OUR JOB to CREATE BRAVE SPACES."
Absolutely 💯
We are teaching our students that their ideas are valid and that we must be brave when trying new things. And failure is good and should be expected

Loved loved loved the #backstagetour of @redmtntheatre
They literally thought of EVERYTHING when they built this place right down to the number of stalls in a women's restroom

Thanks for always sharing statistics related to #artseducation @andy.meadows2
Yall have done some great things with Artlook Alabama

@oliversartroom 💗💗💗
Really enjoyed listening to my friend, @artctrish and other fellowship panelists discuss their #originstory and how they will apply their fellowships to their personal and artistic growth.
Loved specifically what @randi_pink said in that "It's ALL a RISK." Everything we do in this life comes with some risk, so you might as well go for what you really want..... don't let fear of failure stand in your way.

It was a really nice time listening to some great presentations regarding different fields in art education. And the performance from @unitedability left no dry eyes in the house! There's a lot more I could write, but just know it's definitely worth attending.

Donna Russell has been an amazing Executive Director of the Alliance, and it was bittersweet ending to the conference as she's retiring at the end of the month. Thanks for all your hard work and advocacy for the arts in education!!!!

Love all the photos in the #naeaconvention #naea2025 @naea_arteducators album sent to attendees recently! @sethphoto always does a great job capturing convention moments.

Just gotta say @hulkenbag your bag totally saved me Thursday during the convention. I was able to haul around my workshop materials, artist market earrings, and an extra outfit easily all day Thursday. I even folded and vacuum sealed my #hulkenbag in my suitcase just so I would have it. Out of a convention of over 4000+ art educators I didn't see another Hulken bag.... but I guarantee there will be many next year. I can't tell you how many times I was stopped during the day for folks to ask about it and take photos of it.

Of course I had to wear my @nooworks @burger_babie dress too! It went great with my eyeball disco ball earrings that I made just for myself!

Also, peep some of the awesome professional photos taken of Tammie and Tricia during the awards ceremonies! Way to go yall!!! *totes glad I wore my #sequinblazer by @showmeyourmumu to celebrate yalls awards!

Some of my favorite takeaways from the @naea_arteducators #naeaconvention #naea2025 is hanging out with new friends, celebrating longtime friends, and hugging the necks of many I might only see once a year. *If I didn't get a photo with you, I'm so sorry. I'm not the best at remembering to do that. Most of these pics I borrowed from the folks who took them.

I am already plotting and planning for next year!

Also I need to point out that the uber UHMAZING @minimatisseart drew me as a cat in the style of @angierozelaar .... I'm "cattered" and will now only refer to myself as "A-meow-nda."

And @mrdearybury we are making tattoos happen next time for sure! Probably should be "blah blah blah...be MORE you!"

Friday Day 3 of the @naea_arteducators #naeaconvention #naea2025

The @guerrillagirls were ABSOLUTELY UHMAZING! It was awesome listening to "Frida Kahlo" discussing the activism, events, and knowledge the Guerilla Girls have done and shared over the past 40+ years. "It's not apple pie without ice cream, and it's not Democracy without Feminism!"

After that, the @alabama_art_educators educators attending the convention met up for a group photo. Not everyone attending could make it to the photo, so we are missing a few.

Then, several of us visited the vendors exhibition hall before we had to make a mad dash off to the NAEA Southeastern Awards where we celebrated @teachertammie with her NAEA Marion Quinn Dix Award and @artctrish for being awarded AAEA Art Educator of the Year as well as NAEA Southeastern Middle School Art Educator of the Year!!! Woohoo!!! Both of these women are highly accomplished individuals who have selflessly shared their passion and knowledge with their peers over the years and have both served as President on the AAEA board, and both continue to still serve on the board. KUDOS TO YOU BOTH!!!!

Then, once awards and the SE meeting was over, I spent a few hours at the @speedartmuseum with @mississippiarteducation past president @doodlesnpoodles and one of her art education students.

The Thursday night @naea_arteducators #naea2025 #naeaconvention #naeaartisansale was UHMAZING!

I loved that the opening night party attendees had to walk through the gallery to get into the party. In the past, the two events have been rather far apart in terms of location within the venue.

I did manage to snap a few pics of some fabulous #discoparty outfits, and some folks were even wearing my earrings and hairclips. Some folks promptly put them on during the party! @ashcanworks was ready to disco! @beccaflowers
the eyeball heart hairclip looked great with your outfit and pink wig!!

Also, on Friday, I spotted several folks wearing my work. One lady let me snap her pic in the hallway. And several more approached me about buying more. May have even sold a few at dinner, ahem, @cassie_stephenz and @arteepartee 💗💗🦄🦄

Not to brag, but my table was swamped the whole night! I couldn't have kept up without the help of @doodlesnpoodles . Thanks, friend, for volunteering to help!!! Super appreciated.

I started with 78 pairs, and I came home with 20.....

Thanks again to all the fabulous art educators who came to the market to support all of us selling our handmade goods. I'm sure we all pour our heart and soul into our work, and it makes my heart so happy to know my pieces are being bought and appreciated by fellow artists. A huge thanks to the folks who continually support me yearly through multiple purchases..... some of yall have your own small collection of AYoungblood Earrings. Love yall!!

Can't wait to start back making more.... and maybe a few smaller pieces for those who've asked!

@naea_arteducators #naea2025 #naeaconvention #vibrant

This whole convention was extremely VIBRANT!

Wednesday Day 1: Attended Delegates Assembly for the last time! Had great conversations at the Delegates Regional Meet Up Afterwards. Then palled around with @mississippiarteducation to see the Flock of Fins Sculptures then on to the @brownhotel to try the amazingly delicious "hot brown." So worth it!

Thursday Day 2: NAEA Convention Kick off! Started the morning by celebrating @teachertammie for her most deserved award of the NAEA Marion Quinn Dix Award, recognizing her service and selfless dedication to the organization. Being on the board is a VOLUNTEER position an Tammie has served in many roles, including President (2018 - 2020) and gives back repeatedly by sharing her knowledge by presenting at workshops.

Then I sped off to hang up the YAM Winners and VACA Winners in the Youth Art Month Booth.
I was delighted that California Art Ed Association told me they copied @alabama_art_educators presentation format for the booth. Sharing is caring!
Ran into fellow AAEA Members and MAEA and LAEA peeps while doing that.

One of my favorite parts about convention is running into some of my most favorite art teacherin peeps throughout the event.

Then we celebrated @oliversartroom well deserved award of 2025 Art Media Technology Outstanding Teacher Award. Tricia is an amazing art educator who mixes traditional art processes with digital tools. She is a wonderful human, inspiring art teacher, and a great friend!

Then I dashed off to present my ticketed workshop "Brush Up on Brush Lettering Techniques" to 31 attendees!.... And that was only halfway through my day.....more pics later.
