A PIECE OF ME

3:00 PM | Textile Art Workshop with Nabila Horakhsh

A participatory textile art workshop exploring identity, memory, connection, and collective belonging.

A Piece of Me is a participatory, conceptual, and experimental installation that brings together pieces of fabric from diverse cultures, geographies, and personal stories. Through collecting, stitching, documenting, and connecting these fragments, the project reimagines the concept of unity: each individual is a unique piece of a larger collective body.

What to bring:
Each participant is invited to bring a piece of clothing or textile from home that holds personal meaning.

The workshop creates a space for participants to meet, exchange stories, and reflect on their individual identities through the process of making. Each fabric fragment carries the expression of its maker, preserving its own colors, textures, memories, and identity.

The pieces created during the workshops will be collected, documented, connected, and assembled into a large-scale textile installation. Each fragment tells an individual story; together, they form a shared body that celebrates diversity, connection, and belonging.

Nabila Horakhsh is an ArtsLink Fellow 2026, co-hosted by HFBK Hamburg and ArtEast, New York. CEC ArtsLink, based in the United States, supporting pioneering transnational artists, curators, and arts leaders in developing creative, community-engaged practices in the US and across borders.

The Immigrant Artist Biennial opened its third edition on Oct. 8 at Brooklyn Art Haus with “The Immortals: Three Stories. One Unfinished History,” a performance by New York-based artist @rawyaelchab. Her piece considers how political identities, collective memory and family histories are inherited and contested across generations.

Presented by ArteEast, the 45-minute work-in-progress performance marked the opening of “Identity Card,” the 2026 edition of the biennial, which runs Oct. 8 through Nov. 11 across venues in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Founded in 2019 by artist Katya Grokhovsky, the biennial has presented the work of more than 175 artists, creating a platform for immigrant artists through exhibitions, performances and public programming.

“When we think about immigrant artists, it’s really artists who have recently come to the U.S. or are part of a diaspora that is more recent,” said Anna Mikaela Ekstrand, associate director of the Immigrant Artist Biennial.

Wishing this year's ArtsLink Fellows an excellent start to their in-person residencies!

After months of connecting from afar, six artists from Palestine, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Hungary, and Uzbekistan begin their Fellowships at their host organizations in the US and Europe.

‘Fouad Elkoury Retrospective,’ an online screening program is currently #OnView, presented by ArteEast as part of Unpacking the ArteArchive.

Surveying more than two decades of Elkoury’s filmmaking, the program traces a practice that began in 1960s Beirut, when he first picked up his father’s camera as a child. That everyday impulse grew into a body of work following civil war, displacement, and political uprising across the Middle East, at once playful and sincere.

Films include ‘Lettres à Huguette (Letters to Huguette),’ ‘Civil war, the film,’ ‘Welcome to Beirut,’ and ‘Jours tranquilles en Palestine (Quiet Days in Palestine).’

Artist/Hikayat Spotlight: Rawya El Chab is a New York based Lebanese theater maker. Her work transforms archival research, poetry, and memories of historical events into living narratives using shadow puppetry, projection, and sound.
