On Thursday 6 August, seven photographers from The Photobook Club Collective will come together at FUJIFILM House of Photography for Making the Photobook: Creativity and Business.

Gabrielle Motola @gmotophotos
Hark1karan @hark1karan
Jane Hilton @janehiltonphotography
Janine Wiedel @wiedelphoto
John Walmsley @johnwalmsleyphotos
Marc Wilson @marcwilsonphoto
Paul Treacy @treacyphoto

They will bring their books to the table and talk honestly about how they were made, not only the editing, sequencing, design and writing, but also the funding, print runs, pricing, publishing routes and distribution that make a photobook possible.

The panel brings together trade publishing, independent imprints, community-funded books and editions made entirely by hand. There is no single correct route, only different decisions, approaches and possibilities.

Books by seven other Collective members will also be available to buy on the night, and more members will join us afterwards for drinks, signings and informal one-to-one conversations. For anyone who is working on a photobook or is still wondering whether their project could become one, this is a rare opportunity to meet working bookmakers, ask questions, and talk through ideas in a relaxed setting.

Our hope is that you leave with a clearer, more realistic understanding of how a photobook can move from creative idea to sustainable publication.

The discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A, book signing and drinks.

Thursday 6 August 2026
18:00 to 21:00
FUJIFILM House of Photography, Covent Garden
Tickets £10

⁣⁣We knew the UK launch was going to be a special event when the day before in a planning meeting, we decided to sit in a circle to change up from the typical book talk set up of authors/speakers at the front and the audience in front of them.⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
Our UK launch was graciously organized and hosted by the incomporably swaggy K. Bailey @drybabe who is the Founder + Director of the amazingly unapologetic Black queer entity that is PRIM (@prim.black)—a digital (and real-world) platform for storytelling that prides itself on the promotion of queer Black artists and Diasporic cultures. ⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
We were graciously hosted by Jamie Shaw at 10-14 Gallery (@1014.gallery) in East London, an intimate space full of contemporary art and photography.⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
The event was so special because we had the opportunity to hear from 2 of our 3 British contributors @alexander_ikhide + @artehodjidja_photography who offered insight into the works they contributed to our beloved book and their creation stories.⁣⁣⁣In addition to hearing from these talented artists we got to hear the brilliant thoughts of one the UK’s brightest minds: @itsjaninebtw who shared stories about her experiences as a Black brit and woman in the world (and her passionate love for cats🐱).⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
The entire conversation and night was lovingly facilitated by K. who kept the vibes going with thoughtful questions and insights of her own.⁣⁣⁣⁣
The night was really made by all the beautiful people who pushed through a slightly cold and rainy night (oh hey London weather) to join us in that circle and offer their own thoughts insights of their experiences of being Black in the world.⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
One of the most stand out moments was towards the end when the question was posed of what do we do without our privileges as Black folks living in the West and how to further use our platforms and opportunities to amplify Black voices and stories that dont have as much access. Its an important question that those of us in these positions must continue to ask and take action on.⁣⁣⁣⁣ (see comments for rest of caption).
