Dropped off my 2”x4” canvases. ✅ All of the 815 featured artists were invited to participate in this tiny canvas exhibition to celebrate the 24th annual #AustinStudioTour. I was told I was the only one who’s used charcoal (so far). ☺️ Find these cuties at the Almost Real Things Gallery at Canopy.

For my artist friends wondering, I prepped the canvases with one coat of Daniel Smith Watercolor Ground. 👌🏼

We had an incredibly insightful conversation with @artsparktx’s panel of speakers about accessibility in the arts. 🫶 As the @austinstudiotour comes up, we hope you keep these considerations in mind! Here’s what we learned:

✨Not every space is accessible and that’s okay! Just be transparent about ADA compliance so folks know what to expect.

✨Accessible spaces/locations ideally provide:
+ Multiple ADA parking spots
+ Areas with wide enough turning radiuses for wheelchair users
+ Flat, clean spaces
+ Art that is at an interactive height + easily accessible
Ramps for wheelchair users (there are temporary and foldable options!)

✨These are ways to connect with different audiences:
+ You can provide QR Codes which include pictures of the art. If it’s tactile, you can provide squares of materials
+ Offer to be outside for a certain amount of time so folks can ask you questions about their art. There’s nothing better than hearing from the artist themselves.
+ Upload a video of your space online so visitors know what to expect and can re-visit the art the saw in your studio

✨Last but not least, treat visitors with the same curiosity and warmth you’d treat others.

If you’d like to learn more, Art Spark has a plethora of resources on their website and host a podcast called “True Tales by Disability Advocates”. 💭🙇

🎨 A Visit to Canopy Austin
Yesterday, I had the chance to visit Canopy, one of Austin’s vibrant creative communities in East Austin. Canopy brings together artists, galleries, creative studios, and other makers in a unique space where art and community come together.
I especially enjoyed walking through the artists’ studios and seeing where artists create their work. Visiting a working studio gives you a different perspective—you can see not only the finished artwork, but also the creative process and the environment where the ideas begin.
For someone who loves art, books, culture, and creativity, Canopy was a beautiful place to explore and discover the artistic spirit of Austin. 🎨❤️

Watch me try to recreate my Palo Duro lighthouse painting on a tiny canvas.

Next month I get to participate in the Austin Studio Tour Group Exhibition at the Almost Real Things Gallery at Canopy. It’s like a sampler of both weekends, with all art sized 2” x 4” to celebrate the 24th year.

‼️ The AST 2026 Guidebook Cover is here... and it’s beautiful! @aarondegruyter designed and screen-printed this print for us. A little about the piece from Aaron:

“My inspiration includes elements of my childhood, my personal healing journey and the metamorphosis of the Tour. In my own blossoming, two elements stand out: a reconnection to my emotions (sky, clouds) and finding support (flowers). These elements ground me, rooting me in something larger than myself. Utilizing art to process where I fit in can feel isolating, but participating in the Tour connects me with artists and my community.”

We are counting down the days till we see this art on our new Guidebook! Stay tuned for details about how you can get your paws on it. 👀

SAVE THE DATE! We’re so excited to host Hope Hummingbird, Kate and Lauren for their group exhibition FORTRESS!

FORTRESS brings together three women artists considering a fundamental question: What might we create if we quit inheriting the old world and began imagining the next one?

Join us at our gallery at Canopy on October 2nd to view all new artwork spanning the mediums of ceramics, paintings, sculpture and found objects. Together in FORTRESS, these artists charge the space with an intimate look beyond the veil, inviting us into an unruly place of becoming.
