Finally made it to FiraTarrega, the legendary Catalan outdoor arts marketplace and festival. Delighted to represent Without Walls alongside colleagues from England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland, promoting artists and festivals across the four nations.

Was lucky to see some amazing work being showcased at the event. Much love to all the artists who brought their work. And big thanks to colleagues and friends for making it a very enjoyable first visit, especially the incredible David Doust who does so much for the members of Outdoor Arts UK (and who is always up for a dance!)

Reflecting on a brilliant FiraTàrrega experience. @outdoorartsuk co-organised a 4 nations networking tea and biscuits event. It was great working with colleagues from across the UK and Ireland, together, as advocates supporting each of our unique contexts, our voices are stronger.

I felt unbelievably proud of the two OAUK members presenting at the festival. @dulce.duca holding a thousand plus people in the palm of her hand with Um Belo Dia. @companychameleon bringing joy-filling play in abundance with The Ultimate Players Handbook.

As an experience, it renewed my resolve to keep fighting to reverse the cataclysmic fuck up that we made leaving the EU. I know the Tàrrega streets used to be graced with many more companies from our isles, and whilst this was before my time in the sector, I one day hope to experience what my peers have told me about.

On Thursday evening, before the Fira kicked off proper, I shook hands with the Catalan Minister of Culture, hopefully reminding them of our willingness to work with our mainland European colleagues. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a picture of this so you’ll have to make do with my artistic rendering (the last picture).

I leave filled with so much love for all my colleagues, those across the channel and beyond, and those that inhibit the lands I call home.

A special shoutout to my dear friend @producer__dom. Whose company was a pleasure throughout and whose kindness stretched to ordering first at most cafes and allowing me to just say “I’ll have the same” in Spanish after him, despite me being the Spanish speaker of the two of us.

One more festival for the summer for me and it’s the hometown one. I’ve a week and a bit to plan all my advocating for it, and being at the Fira has helped me understand what can be possible when we commit wholeheartedly to culture in the streets.

Part 1/2: Articulation CCC (Creative Consultation Crew) back at it again last weekend doing outreach @govanhillfestival - first taking part in their anti-racist carnival parade before undertaking some consultation with participants and audience members during the festival… capturing the incredible impact of Govanhill International Festival, and the lessons we can learn from the most diverse and inclusive neighbourhood in Scotland.

The perfect antidote to our previous weekend in Glasgow when the hate of the far right spewed out into the streets.

🎭 Exploring the future of outdoor arts practice 🎭

We’re delighted that our Director, Katy Fuller, has been invited by Articulation Arts to share her insights at 'MULTIFACETED: Exploring the evolution of multidisciplinary outdoor arts practice' in Glasgow on Friday 24 July.

Katy will open the conversation by sharing reflections from her experience delivering large-scale outdoor and site-specific arts projects, festivals and cultural events, before joining a wider panel discussion exploring how multidisciplinary approaches are shaping the future of outdoor arts.

Bringing together artists, producers, festival directors and cultural organisations, MULTIFACETED will explore the creativity, collaboration and innovation driving the sector forward.

We’re looking forward to being part of this important conversation and sharing insights from our work across the cultural landscape.

Our Events Manager, Holli Scott, joined members of @theflapsproject, Articulation and the Kelburn Welfare Team for a panel discussion on Safeguarding at Scottish Festivals at @kelburnparties earlier this month exploring how we can continue to build safer, more inclusive festival spaces for everyone.

Safeguarding isn't a one-off conversation or a box to tick. As festivals evolve, so do the challenges and opportunities to better support audiences, artists, staff and volunteers. That's why ongoing collaboration, knowledge sharing and honest conversations across the music industry are so important. By bringing together different experiences and perspectives, we can learn from one another and keep raising the standard for safer events.

A huge thank you to Kelburn Garden Party for creating space for these discussions alongside an incredible weekend of music!

It’s about time I shared these event photos cos they’ve been top of my list for ages. I photographed this Summer Gathering for Articulation Arts at BAaD in Glasgow. It’s so colourful and joyous, everyone was full of energy, connecting with old and new friends and colleagues. Look out for circus skills, BSL interpreter, surreal performance art, hugging, chatting, and a wee dog who was clearly very keen to learn. It’s rare you get a post from me without a creature popping up (literally in this case).
