ARTSwego, bringing the arts to campus at SUNY Oswego

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Amy Shearn is a wise, funny, and generous writer, and I'm so excited that she will be sharing some of that magic with my Living Writer Series class at @sunyoswego.

When I landed on the theme A/I, I hoped Amy would be part of our line up. Her novel ANIMAL INSTINCT might have felt speculative when she was writing it, but now it feels deeply observant of human nature. Of course, humans were going to seek love--the way we always have. That our search would lead us to generative AI feels, in hindsight, inevitable.

Oh, FYI: Animal Instinct was selected by @npr as one of the best books of 2025.

On Monday, Oct 26, Amy will read from Animal Instinct, participate in a Q & A, and sign books.

If this all sounds like fun, please join us. The event is free and open to the public. It's in MCC 132 at SUNY Oswego from 3 to 4:20 p.m.

I'm thrilled that Soma Mei Sheng Frazier will be our guest for Living Writers Series at @sunyoswego. How lucky are our students?

@somameishengfrazier's debut novel OFF THE BOOKS received rave reviews from the New York Times, Kirkus, and San Francisco Chronicle. Her second novel--Eat Bitter, Anastasia--is forthcoming from Macmillan. (Look for it in February.) She is the founding editor of @subniveanmag, the international literary magazine at SUNY Oswego. And because Soma is so brilliant, she was also selected as the Oswego Reading initiative's (ORI) featured author. Each year, our campus reads one book, and this year, it is OFF THE BOOKS.

The Living Writers Series is a class that brings in writers at the top of their game to speak with our students about their works and how they have built thriving careers. Since these events are always so fascinating, we open them up to the community for free. Our theme this year is A/I and we've already had lively discussions about the tensions between artistic intelligence and artificial intelligence.

If you're in the area, come hear Soma on Sept 23 at 3 p.m. in MCC 132. Or you can catch Soma's ORI talk at 7 p.m. in the Hewitt Ballroom. And you certainly don't want to miss the book signing after.

another wonderful experience with the girls this time for a full house in Oswego @sunyoswegotheatre and heartfelt thanks to @artswego and @lowellhutcheson with a special shout out to @thestevemazz for making the introduction and allowing me to play viewpoints and devising with his acting students. I also had the privilege of speaking at an Irish history lecture course and learned more from the students, which was my overall impression of my time at SUNY. I love witnessing young folks in their prime, their minds and hearts. keep shining, keep creating. there’s a story inside of you all. grateful 🙏🙏❤️#magdalen #soloperformance #magdalenelaundries

Super excited to have Juliet and Keith Giglio as our first guests for Living Writers Series at @sunyoswego.

Juliet and Keith have literally done it all--they have had a successful career in Hollywood, written page-turning novels, and have a play (Haunted Hearts) that will be preformed at @cny_arts_center (Sept 17-20), tickets available.

The Living Writers Series is a class that brings in writers at the top of their game to speak with our students about their works and how they have built thriving careers. Because these events are SO MUCH FUN, we open them up to the community for free. Our theme this year is A/I and we've already had lively discussions about the tensions between artistic intelligence and artificial intelligence.

Last week in class, we watched Christmas in Tune with @reba, which was so much fun. We're now READY to talk with the Giglios! Can't wait until Monday!

If you're in the area, come hear Juliet and Keith on Sept 14 at 3 p.m. in MCC 132.

despite a *14 HOUR TIME DIFFERENCE* between New York and Sydney, Australia, i was incredibly honored today to have co-hosted (with my friend Alex) a guest lecture from—and q&a with—legendary filmmaker and animator @johnripa (1990 @suny @universityatbuffalo alum!) of @netflix animation and formerly of @disneyanimation from 1993 to 2021 as part of this weekend's StoryTeller's Guild (@stgoswego) annual student-run #ComicCon, Arcon XXIII, here on the @sunyoswego campus for an insightful look inside studio animation, cinematography, storyboarding, and all things creativity!

special thanks to our partners in the Office of Student Engagement & Leadership (@sel_oswego) and the Office of Campus Events & Conference Services (@events.oz) for a successful time, as well as to the incredible faculty and staff within the Department of Communication Studies (@ozcommstudies), the Department of Cinema & Screen Studies (@oswegocinemastudies), the Department of Art & Design (@art_design_oswego), the Department of English & Creative Writing (@oswegoenglish), the @artswego arts programming office, and so many others for supporting a more artistic and creatively inspired university.

Textile work, handmade flags.
•
Each individual element was selected with intention, from the fabric, to the color pallet and design, I wanted this piece to speak for itself.
•
The design incorporates a flower featuring a semi colon. The semi colon represents a surviver of suicide, your story isn’t over yet.
•
The colors for suicide prevention include teal, pink and yellow which is featured in multiple elements in the piece.
•
I created a paper pattern and sewed my pennets together followed up by a screen printed design and brass grommets.
