POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The cassette release show was a huge success! First run of tapes is officially sold out…tysm to everyone who came and listened and picked one up. Thanks to the bands Some are Bunnies, Philophilm, and my set co-collaborator @asflutist for bringing the amazing ambient vibes. Thanks to @johnnyarlett for the incredible visuals. Lastly, a big thank you to @pierogi.palace for hosting all of us and making space for experimental music in Pittsburgh.

@alejandro__me__ graciously captured our set on camera, which you can watch in full on YouTube. Just search for “hellcat sneer” and you’ll find it.

Here are a couple of my favorite moments from the set.

This is probably the piece I have gotten the most feedback on. I love the way the players’ bodies have to interact with the sculpture for it to be played. More of this concept to come.

A performance of Four Interconnected Flutes, as part of Thank You for Playing with Me @843____blankspace____ , January 2026.

I haven’t said enough about my appreciation for these musicians who were willing to explore this with me. These instruments can be tricky to play! They are just different enough from a classic flute, and the notes are of course going to be played very differently. We met for a single rehearsal before the performance of these instruments. Not everything went smoothly, but that is PART OF IT! We’re all living in the discomfort of trying new things, being in uncomfortable situations. And we keep going!

This flute was created during a winter residency @penlandschool

Playing music with a group is always collaborative, and there has to be some sort of communication and connection between the players. Here we exaggerate the collaborative effort - the closeness of faces, bodies, breath. The collective support of the weight of the instrument.

thank you to all the flutists who came out to be a part of flute fest at @brooklynconservatory. it was quite unforgettable. shouts to @hooploopsoup for the ethereal flute sound bath. shouts to @alexandria_dewalt and her trio for the killin’ set!

when i set out to do this, i was shocked by how limited flute choir music was. no diversity! shout out to @blackearthmuse for sharing her stunning pieces “Birdsongs for Ethical Togetherness” + “Black Buttafly” with me, and shout out to @bernard.phillips3 for sharing the beautiful arrangement of “Let There Be Peace on Earth.”

this gathering was really special. some flutists who came thru hadn’t played in years! def going to do this more regularly, so stay tuned, all my fellow flutists. ❤️🪈
