Portugal, we miss you already. 🇵🇹❣️

Our first Off the Block retreat (as a studio!) had so many epic chapters. Each one better than the last.

We leaned into Aparigraha: letting go of attachments to find peace and freedom in the present. 🕊️

The best part: connecting with community and leaving with new friends 💫

S/o to your host @ashleighbello + co-teacher @zeemiwu for taking good care of this crew 💯

And ty to @noirhathorsounds for closing us out with a special sound healing meditation 🌀

🦚 @cocoonportugal - we’ll be back

Obrigada Portugal 🇵🇹 🫶🏾

What a great way to end the summer season. From finally completing my 300 HR Yoga Certification and becoming E-RYT 500 to co-teaching a yoga retreat in Portugal.

Thank you @theblockyoga for giving me the opportunity to create and experience so many wonderful moments at Cocoon with such an amazing group of people.

Cheers to practicing whale pose, mispronouncing Aparigraha and Obrigada ,and releasing what doesn’t serve us to allow everything else that does in ✨ 🤍

Just finished a yoga retreat in Portugal. 12 classes in 7 days! Whew!! And the story that led to this moment is really what's important.

5 1/2 years ago I severely herniated two discs in my lower back. I could barely bend over, walk without a limp or sleep through the night without shooting pain, back/leg spasms and for the first time in my life I understood just how debilitating chronic pain can be.

After exhausting every other effort to fix it without surgery, eventually I did need to get it. And it worked--mostly. I no longer felt the shooting pain, I could use my body again. But I always felt there was a disconnect, a place of weakness I couldn't figure out how to connect with or push through. There was always a bit of discomfort and slowly pain started creeping back. And after using my body so much my whole life, I thought this was my new normal and I'd never get my full body awareness and capabilities back.

Fast forward to the beginning of the year when Jonny and I lived in San Diego for 3 months. Driving everywhere and not getting to work out all the time because of our schedule paid a heavy toll on my lower back. The pain was getting worse again. We drove 3000 miles back to NYC in April and I knew I needed to do something.

Like a diamond in the rough, @theblockyoga had opened LITERALLY IN FRONT OF OUR HOUSE while we were away. It seemed like a sign from the universe. We signed up for a two week trial, and two weeks later my back pain had already started improving. We extended to a monthly membership and began taking hot yoga, Pilates, 4-strength and more.

It was about two months in that one day I made the realization that I had gone 30-days with zero back pain. I didn't want to jinx it, but when that became 60-days and I knew I hadn't experienced that since before 2021, tears burst out of my eyes. I finally got my body back.

The Block has been the answer to my prayers and has also an incredible staff and community they are building, so we thought "should we go to Burning Man or a yoga retreat this year?" What a juxtaposition, right? It was an easy answer to lean into this life changing practice that truly saved my body. Eternally grateful.
